This is the first of a number of shots of the ferry Riverdance, which was blown ashore a couple of miles north of Blackpool last night. If you're interested, there's a BBC news report here.

So far, I've processed five shots that I like, but probably won't bore you with all of them ;-)

Oh, and this looks best with the black theme.

It looks so small, like a toy.

Just saw this on the news about 2 hrs ago. the freight was either headed for or leaving Northern Ireland (where I am). It does look a lot smaller than it looked on tv.

Saw this on the main news and I guessed you'd be there hovering round like a bee round a honey pot. Some real potential here I guess. Have fun. richard

When I saw this on the news this morning I just knew you'd get a shot ;-) A great one I might add!

As soon as I heard about this I thought of you. Nice opener. Look forward to seeing the series! ;-)

Hi David, Early this morning checking my RSS feeds I red that a ferry was in trouble near Blackpool, that the 4 passenger were safe, but the crew was still aboard and the ship may risk to be blown ashore. I immediately told myself, that I will probably see that on Chromasia, and I was true...
Fortunately all pasengers and crew members are safe!
A similar event take place in Normandy, where my parents live : http://www.cedre.fr/uk/spill/kini/kini.htm

Nice one Dave, you see amongst adversity rises opportunity, everytime. Glad no-one was hurt by this one, and it will make some wicked night shots if the tide is out, and the light is right, good luck..... wish I was there..... csj

I actually checked the site tonight just to see if you'd been out to see the ship, and you've not let us down! I like this (especially with the black theme), it gives a real sense of how helpless you are sometimes!
Looking forward to the rest!
Chris.

Nice one - I like your processing as always! I decided to walk down there from Bispham to grab a few photos, not quite realising how vicious the wind was. I was keeping an eye out for you whilst I was there! Looking forward to seeing the others.

it does look weightless. love the tension in the angle of it. and the textures of the threatening clouds. :)

As Regis, when I read the news on the BBC, I thought you would probably get there to get pictures. I would have expected closest shots though.

I get seasick too easily... I can't imagine living the life of a sailor, giving complete control of my life to a couple trillion gallons of water.

This is a very ... philosophical photo. Mainly because the ship looks completely abandoned and alone what with there being no one on the beach (which surprises me, although you may have just cropped them out). I imagine poems would be well suited for it, and if I were a poet, I just might write one.

Good shot. I heard it was going to be there a few days as the weather was stopping them refloating it. And hats of to the guys in the air sea rescue, I'd not go out the door in weather like that let alone hover at 30 odd feet over the sea :)

Great shot. Was waiting for you to come up with this one! I remember at Rossall School in Anchor House there was an anchor on the wall from a fishing trawler that had a similar fate. Not sure that they would be able to fit an HGV on the wall though...

The Irish sea at this time of year is always a little exciting!

Queda genial el modo panorĂ¡mico para realzar el desastre y mostrar lo insignificantes que somos. :)

Furanku: I do have some closer shots that I'll post over the next day or so.

Michael: the coastguard and police cleared the beach, as evidenced by the shot I'll be putting up next :-)
