My apologies for not posting anything over the last couple of days, but as I mentioned in a comment on my previous image, both Libby and Tabby (our youngest) have been unwell. In light of this I've been looking after the rest of the kids, in between supplying Libby with cups of tea and carrying Tabby around the house on an almost constant basis. Anyway, they're both a lot better today, so I should be able to get out and shoot some new material either tomorrow or the day after.
As for this one: after spending two days with almost no time to myself at all, I can certainly sympathise with the mother of this young lad as she smokes a quick cigarette while he strides on ahead.

I like the way the wee lad and the person behind are in sync! Hope Libby and Tabby are fighting fit soon.

I think I would have cropped out more of the head and shoulders of the two women behind the boy. It would have made the boy more obviously the protagonist and yet at the same time kept the three people as a possible trio. Of course it works nicely in the soft BW conversion. richard

Richard: yes, that would have worked too, but I wanted the relationship between them, and that dynamic, to be the focus – not just him.

Tabby = Finlay?
comment bydjn1 at 10:59 PM (GMT) on 25 February, 2008
srg: no, Tabby is our youngest, Finley is three in August. It's obviously about time that I posted some shots of them both.

I'm assuming you dont know them- so how did you take it without them protesting or asking what you're doing? I seem to get stopped and pestered for taking the most mundane and ordinary shots on the streets which dont even involve photographing people. Did you ask first or are you just a good sprinter?

I sure as hell cannot sympathise with parents smoking cigarettes...that's just so dumb and wrong. So cropping out that part would have helped me enjoying this picture a lot ;)

Love the look on this little guy's face--like now that he's on the loose there's no going back! Tabby? Did I miss something? I thought Finley was your last born. Where are the beautiful photos of Tabby?

I am glad to read both your children are doing well! :)
I like to study photographs to give me ideas how to improve my photography skills or re-enfored things I know I should do but have forgotten them. This photo of yours is example. The angle you shoot the photo, down and above and then tilt like 30 degrees to the right side the entire photo, really add the impact I find in it.

Nice street shot. Good one.

rhys: this was shot from the hip as I walked past them, so I didn't ask, and they didn't notice.
RD: ok, point taken, I need to post some photographs of Tabby ;-)
