I was looking through an old folder of images today and came across this one. It was taken about a month before don't look up #2, back in 2005, and I have absolutely no idea why I didn't post it at the time. And for those of you who don't recognise her, this is Rhowan, looking somewhat more angelic than she did in yesterday's shot.

As always, let me know what you think.

On a totally unrelated matter: we've had quite a few emails about the Easter Egg hunt on the tutorials page so have decided to let it run until first thing tomorrow morning. Have fun :-)

I prefer this to the original for several reasons, I prefer the tighter crop, the slight tilt of the head and small smile, better detail and separation in the lashes. The thing I like most tho is the the cleaner processing on this one , the original had a slight tone to it.

David - Do you think it is a better shot than the original or better processed?

really really really nice, you are the master in making portets like this.

That is a really lovely shot. I agree it is better than #2, most of it due to that little smile in her face. A lovely shot, maybe eyelashes too contrasted, but a lovely shot indeed

YETi: I do think this one is better processed - I've had two years more practice since the last one - but I'm not sure which I prefer. In some ways, I like this one better - it has a softer feel, and the smile adds a different feel of the shot - but there's something about the other one I really like to (though I'm not sure I could articulate it).

César: it's interesting that you should mention her eyelashes because I added a bit of contrast after finishing my first edit. I might revisit it and tone it down a bit as I can see what you mean.

I very much like the contrast between the dark lashes and the rest of her face and hair. Works really well and emphasizes the title even more.

hmm ... i think i like this one better than #2. it's probably cuz of the coy, little smile on her face

Call me old-fashioned but I still prefer the original. Both are great and both have their separate charms. However, because the original doesn't have the grin, it has a Mona Lisa appeal and much more mystery.

Angelic is the word! Wonderful image.

Wonderful high key portrait! Thank goodness for Photoshop now! When I used to take portraits with studio lighting, this effect was a lot more physical effort then. Absolutely beautiful!

These types of photos I feel is what you do the best as a photographer. Refreshing, distinctive, evokes emotion in the viewer and something for me to strive to achieve in my photos.

Thanks for sharing. :)

I like it, but not as much as 1 & 2. Looking back at 1 & 2 I find it hard to choose between them, I think I would like to see number 2 done in the tones of number1

The high-key here is great. The emphasis on those dark eye-lashes is really interesting, and the framing is, of course, distinctive. Beautiful image.
