This is the second of the HDR shots I mentioned yesterday and, as I also mentioned, I much prefer this one to yesterday's. It's a shot of the same abandoned shop as yesterday – the 'surgical steel navel bars' sign in the window appears in both – but I've gone for a very different feel with this one: an almost painterly look rather than the dark and dismal look of yesterday's.
One of the things I like most about HDR imagery is that it gives you the opportunity to explore a whole range of ways of representing what is essentially the same scene. For example, I could have easily produced a straight shot of this shop, but by using this technique instead I was able to produce an image with much the same degree of contrast overall, but localised to different areas of the image.
Anyway, enough waffle – tell me what you think.
Oh, and I recommend you try this one with the black theme.

Unbeliveable. Are you a magician? :) I love it.

I've got to agree that this one is the better interpretation. Whilst yesterday's was good it was perhaps too dark; the views into the interior add to this one.

The colors and lighting produced by this kind of work is just incredible. Love the picture.

I love this! It actually looks like a screenshot from a computer game like resident evil or something!

This is very cool. Are you doing these by processing each of the bracketed shots separately before merging them? Or merging the straight shots and then tweaking the resulting image? Regardless: Very Cool.

Very nice shot David, but you know, I'm not sure if I'm a HDR fan. It seems to be a very difficult look to get 'right' and all too often they are overly 'processed'. I've tried both Photoshop CS3 and Photomatix without much success so I'm really looking forward to your tutorial as your shots strike a very effective balance between realism and 'that HDR look'.

Technically superb, but HDR gives always the same effect....
For once i think the painterly style works, normally it gets a bit to soft or fuzzy for my taste.
If you want to get peoples attention the painterly style always does the job :)

fantastic image. There is so much to entertain the eye with reflections and all these geometrics to. mal
wuu great post. very cool.
Thanks all.
the color atmosphere and diffusion are great in this one, but i think i prefer the bolder composition of the previous day's pic. but both are great!
Smooth photo.
This is a really great shot. And a very interessting perspective of this shop, too.
Really great work!
