If you stopped by today in hope of finding a 'proper' photograph, you picked a bad day, as this one is a combination of two originals (both taken with a 15mm fisheye), various radial blur and motion blur filters, and the lens flare filter (twice). In other words, it's not a true reflection of my journey. It is, however, a fairly accurate representation of the feeling, especially when you've had far too little sleep ;-)

Still very good and interesting photo with a touch of futuristic theme.

Expecting a 'proper photograph', maybe, but it's always nice to something different like this. I love it! The perspective and colours and of course the lights make for an amazing picture.

A good image is a good image. Those nutjobs who whine about photoshop can kiss it.

Well done.

Fascinating and definitely blogworthy! I wonder if this is how the world looks when suffering from migraine - it has a cool but kinda aaaaaargh feel to it - hope that makes sense to someone!

i love it!!! really haunting feel and energy. would have not guessed that this is a fisheye lense.

comment by Jeff T at 09:43 PM (GMT) on 23 April, 2008

Fantastic! While it may not be a "proper" photograph, it is very expressive and well done. Excellent image!

Go Speed racer, go!

(you have lots of others shots I could put on my wall ;)

LOL...is that tired old debate still bumbling along on here?

I've only recently come back, Dave, checking in where you're at nowadays. I have to say I think this is the dog's doodahs. I think it's a stunning image that has been crafted with great inventiveness and verve and I applaud you for it.

'proper photographs'....LOL...

comment by francesco at 10:45 PM (GMT) on 23 April, 2008

I tend to agree with Jesse, I do not see what 'proper photograph' means. We already photoshop our images, sometimes heavly.. sometimes to get them more real, sometimes to get them more unreal.
They are just an expression of ourselfs. I am bored of people saying nonsense about traditional photographs, the limit to retouching and similar stuff.
I mean, we do photos because we want to express something, and is better to use all the instruments we have to espress what we feel!

comment by kristarella at 01:59 AM (GMT) on 24 April, 2008

Really like it!
I think this counts as a proper photo... one can take just as abstract things with just a camera, involving Photoshop doesn't make it less valid. :)

Very interesting work... I'd love a bigger copy for my desktop... it looks like a great desktop image.

I am not quite sure how to put this into words but the photograph stirred more than one emotion. A former co-worker of mine died on this particular stretch of road, He was trying fix a new tire on his car, when he was hit by a speeding driver undertaking in the service lane. She Sheikh Zayed Road has one of the highest fatality rates in the UAE and in my humble opinion, this photograph couldn't have expressed a more perfect interpretation of the anxiety a lot of people have whilst driving on it.

comment by lain at 01:50 PM (GMT) on 24 April, 2008

this picture really captures that over-tired feeling. when everything feels too sharp and the world tilts if you turn around too fast.

comment by Jay at 02:06 PM (GMT) on 24 April, 2008

Great shot! I love the perspective and the sense of motion.

Thanks everyone, and I quite agree about the 'proper photograph' debate being a waste of time. For me, the ends justify the means.

I have at long last decided that I'm glad I'm not a rabbit ... being caught in headlight dazzle must be no fun.
This is superb Dave. richard

I think this may be my first time commenting on one of your photos David, although I 've visited so often that I feel like I know you well enough to use your first name.

I just wanted to let you know how much admired this image...you should try experimenting/taking risks more often with your blog photos. This is exceptionally good and adds a bit of variety to your more 'norma'l' type of photo.

Best wishes,

Ian

I actually really love this picture a lot. I guess this would be the view if you had to ride on the front of you car at really high speed... Not that you would want to do that but that is what I thought when I saw the picture. Love it!

comment by Dave C. at 12:51 AM (GMT) on 30 April, 2008

This is superb: the hoary old digital art/ photography debate is surely long dead on the strength of images such as this...oops, just tripped over my light meter...then again...
