If you stopped by today in hope of finding a 'proper' photograph, you picked a bad day, as this one is a combination of two originals (both taken with a 15mm fisheye), various radial blur and motion blur filters, and the lens flare filter (twice). In other words, it's not a true reflection of my journey. It is, however, a fairly accurate representation of the feeling, especially when you've had far too little sleep ;-)

Expecting a 'proper photograph', maybe, but it's always nice to something different like this. I love it! The perspective and colours and of course the lights make for an amazing picture.

Well done.

LOL...is that tired old debate still bumbling along on here?
I've only recently come back, Dave, checking in where you're at nowadays. I have to say I think this is the dog's doodahs. I think it's a stunning image that has been crafted with great inventiveness and verve and I applaud you for it.
'proper photographs'....LOL...

I tend to agree with Jesse, I do not see what 'proper photograph' means. We already photoshop our images, sometimes heavly.. sometimes to get them more real, sometimes to get them more unreal.
They are just an expression of ourselfs. I am bored of people saying nonsense about traditional photographs, the limit to retouching and similar stuff.
I mean, we do photos because we want to express something, and is better to use all the instruments we have to espress what we feel!
comment bykristarella at 01:59 AM (GMT) on 24 April, 2008

I think this counts as a proper photo... one can take just as abstract things with just a camera, involving Photoshop doesn't make it less valid. :)

I am not quite sure how to put this into words but the photograph stirred more than one emotion. A former co-worker of mine died on this particular stretch of road, He was trying fix a new tire on his car, when he was hit by a speeding driver undertaking in the service lane. She Sheikh Zayed Road has one of the highest fatality rates in the UAE and in my humble opinion, this photograph couldn't have expressed a more perfect interpretation of the anxiety a lot of people have whilst driving on it.

I think this may be my first time commenting on one of your photos David, although I 've visited so often that I feel like I know you well enough to use your first name.
I just wanted to let you know how much admired this image...you should try experimenting/taking risks more often with your blog photos. This is exceptionally good and adds a bit of variety to your more 'norma'l' type of photo.
Best wishes,

Time warp, wow...
this picture really captures that over-tired feeling. when everything feels too sharp and the world tilts if you turn around too fast.
Great shot! I love the perspective and the sense of motion.
So cool. Nice pp!
Looks like an Gran Turismo picture !
great pic and great post processing
Sweet image Dave, and a bit of a departure from your normal style. I like it. :)
Thanks everyone, and I quite agree about the 'proper photograph' debate being a waste of time. For me, the ends justify the means.
nice photoshopped lens flare...
The lens flare made me un-subscribe to your RSS.
