I don't imagine this one will be to everyone's taste, but there's something about it that I like. It may be the shallow depth of field (this was shot at f/1.4), or maybe that it's just a lot simpler than the stuff I've been posting recently – I'm not sure. Anyway, feel free to let me know your thoughts.

Love the colors. Can't help but see two eyes looking down at me.

This is EXACTLY the sort of thing I like. Simple, otherwise rather banal subject matter put in the spotlight with some lovely framing. Not the biggest fan of the overly green tones but they work nonetheless. The softness of the background is fab, and in a way is one of the things that really says 'Chromasia' to me.

I like it.
One second to raise your eyes and maybe rest them.

I love it. So smooth and simple, great green and the lamp is very nice. :)
Love this one... the shallow DOF makes it almost look like it's a small scale toy ... and the simplicity of the composition is great compared with some of the extreme detail shots of the buildings last week (not that they weren't great too!)

Very moody, love the color.

I like this shot - the colours and mood are wonderful. Part of me can't help but saying "post-modern frog" should have been the title.
It's definitely to my taste. Very nice mood to it.

I don't know what it is either, maybe the green? I like it.
comment by Parker at 01:08 AM (GMT) on 17 May, 2008
Terrific! I like it a lot. I really like the green color and the simplicity of the shot. It almost looks fake, or like something one might find at Disney World.
comment bybravelee at 01:36 AM (GMT) on 17 May, 2008
the two light bulbs were really nicely captured, but the green color is somehow too "fake" for the scene, imho. sometimes simpler can also make it boring... maybe you should take more photos of your kids, I love your portrait shots :)
Thanks all, not least because this one got a much better response than I was expecting.

Hi Dave -- this isn't so much a comment on the photo as a question about presentation: I've noticed many times where you've commented that a particular photo looks best with the black theme. I don't know the same is not true of the white theme but I've not 'noticed' that to be true and it struck me as odd that the site default is white. If a majority of your shots look best with the black theme, why not have that as default?
Gary: I think most look best with the white theme, but I occasionally mention the black theme when I do think it suits a particular shot.

You can nearly see the window to my room in this shot. I'd wake up at 8.30 every morning and see you stood outside with a coffee and a fag, David!
Love the shot, great mood and use of shallow DOF.

Your photos are great but I particularly like this one. Very well composed and very atmospheric. It has a dark cinematic quality.

I really like the simplicity here--and the geometry of the diagonal lines of the building, the vertical line of the lamp post, and the circles of the lamps and curved lamp lines (?). I really like the green, too. Really evocative work.

I like the simple geometry to this image Dave, well done.
Two creepy disembodied eyes staring down at me! Aaaggghhhh!!
toylike/cartoon eyeball like. funny. great color.
I like the composition, tones and shallow dof very much. I like it.
I really liked it. It's a very simple subject but I love de composition, depth of field and the overall mood of the shot. Great work, as allways!
Works for me - great colours and a simple comp.
Exceptional post. What can I say except than I hope that this picture will one day be explained in one of your tutorials.
Cheers
great line game, beautifull scene. :D
Great atmophere! and the dof is just perfect.
Finlay sat next to me, saw this and said "eyes".... I concur ;-) csj
This is awsome. I like it alot!!!!!!!!!!
Technically clever, but (for me at least) a little vacuous; it doesn't speak to me.
Thanks all, not least because this one got a much better response than I was expecting.

I like it a lot, more that all the recent stuff actually. I find the simplicity of it charming. Nice tones too.
wonderful !!
Something a little different here, as I was clicking through, catching up on your shots. Very nice.
This photograph reminds me of a street lamp I took in Italy last year

I think I prefer the softer green colouring of your final image - well done
the light!!!!!ohh, the light!!!!=P~
