All the shots I've posted this week were from the Blackpool Pride 2008 festival, and all were shot on Blackpool's North Pier. This one, on the other hand, was taken from the North Pier, and as you can see, the beach was a lot quieter than the pier.
Update: following a couple of the comments below I re-evaluated the composition and decided that it would look better if the horizon wasn't placed in the centre of the frame. So, I've gone for a 16x9 crop this time instead of the original 2x1. If you're interested, the original crop is here:
Just a gorgeous, calming shot. The tones are fantastic.

Yeh..its not bad.
In all seriousness, its brilliant. It really does interest me to see what you're posting on a daily basis because as a student, its always good to see top end work to learn from and be inspired by...I may actually look into your tutorials because I'm sure I'd learn alot.

Just lovely! I thought this would have been full on wide angle. Even with a lousy screen it still looks stunning!
I really do like this, so simple but so effective. I just wish it wasn't split right down the middle though. I love the placement of the couple in the frame.

Stunning image with lovely, subtle tones. I love these really wide 'extreme' compositions of yours; reminiscent of French cinema or the better shot end of Bollywood
I agree - a wonderful image. It's hard to believe this is Blackpool!
I also love the detail in the background - you can even see the wind turbines on the hills.

so pretty, so well balanced. love depth from multiple shades in hills. sharp contrast offered by tiny clouds. textured foreground. the feeling it's a mouth they're walking towards, whether it is or not. :)
Perfect shot, nice atmosphere and beautful landscape!!

So many of your photographs make me think of how small we as humans really are.

Dave - my mistake about the "top heavy" comment. I still prefer the original :-)

Simply amazing colours. Even though the skies are dark, the image has a very soft, warm tone to it. The updated crop is the stronger of the two, pulling the eye in more and creating a sense of a wide landscape. Well done!

WOW! What a serene and beautiful place ... well captured too! So vast!
I love the tone. Gorgeous.
Beautiful!!!
I am not sure why the image is not opening. Maybe I am because I use Safari on a mac. But thought you might like to know
cy: I also use a Mac, and it's working ok for me in Safari, so I would guess there's some sort of network problem between you and our server.
Absolutely beautiful!
Really like the potential of this David ... but it sort of seems top heavy to me ... if you get my drift.
Absolutely beautiful!
This is my favourite of the week... tranquil but moody, definitely a case of less is more :)
Nice place. I can smell the calm. Nice picture.

Beautiful Photograph David! : )
Breathtaking, I like the two figues in the corner they really show the vastness of the land.
Legend Worthy.
looks like iceland!!! beautiful... great tonality.
Great tones and I like the sweeping wide angle coupled with the tiny people.
What a lovely image! Classic and timeless. Could you tell me which of your tutorials show how to achieve the lovely tones in the photograph?
Stunning scene. The two people in the corner really make the shot in my opinion
Well, for me it just brings back lots of great childhood memories- the beach and the view of the south lakes- so for that reason its a clear winner.
Outstanding! This shot really shows the scale of our planet in comparison to us. This is one I'd definitely hang on my wall. Amazing work!
I prefer the "original" - sometimes rules are there to be broken !! As someone else said, this version is more "top heavy"
Awesome as always! Love the vast space in this picture with the people in left hand corner. Great composition!
Steve
Wonderful work, I have an obsession with tiny people so I naturally love this. The new composition works much better for me also.
Thanks all.
Jeremy: the "top heavy" comment applied to the 2x1 crop, not this one.
Absolutely stunning! If there was a way to express perfection..this would be it.
WOW! Really amazing and beautiful
Great shot. Your best for a while I would say! ;-)
Gorgeous imagery. Thinkin about ordering this one.
very few shots that i've come across in my lifetime take my breath away. this one was one of them.
The solitude is striking in this one!! Beautiful!
Perfect shot, nice atmosphere and beautful landscape!!
