Despite the fact that we're based in the UK our biggest audience has always been in the US. For example, in the last 12 months we have had 878,731 US visitors - distributed across all 52 50 states: 136k from California, 67k from New York, 54k from Texas, 39k from Florida, and so on. By way of comparison, in the same period we have had 235k visitors from the UK, 108k visitors from Canada, 49k from France, and so on. In fact, according to Google Analytics we have had visitors from a total of 205 countries, including the Vatican and Antarctica, but the bottom line is that almost a third of you are based in the US.

So, on that basis: happy Independence Day :-)

Thank you! Very generous, considering. ;- ) Fantastic picture. Love the colors best and the dimensions. BTW, 50 states only.

RD: thanks, I've corrected my entry, and I did know that - honestly :-)

comment by Eric at 12:50 PM (GMT) on 4 July, 2008

Wow, I knew I checked the site a lot, but 54,000 times? I better get a life!

Eric: Austin is in first place in Texas (with 9,988 visitors) but Houston comes a close second with 9,836 - closely followed by Dallas, San Anontio, Irving and Addison. In total there are 432 locations listed in Texas for the last 12 months.

Very nice shot even the dividing line between earth and sky is perfectly displayed here. the persons in the photo make a good effect even though I would have left it clean.

After reading your stats I have to say I feel very unloved ;-D Beautiful shot - love the panorama and am particularly enjoying the colours now! I opened your last shot side by side on the old and new machines - it was hilarious.

Ah, but 0.39% of the UK population visit your site against a mere 0.23% of the US population. So your site is nearly twice as popular here, per capita, than in the US.
That feels better.

I like this picture of members of our seafaring nation gazing across the wide ocean towards our lost colony.

52 States? Hmmm Canada and Mexico perhaps?

(relax relax...I'm Canadian and can take a joke! :D)

Love the sheer sense of place (clone out those peeps though :D)

I love the simplicity of composition and super-wide aspect ratio. Thanks for your generosity...much appreciated here in the US!

Thanks for the holiday sentiments! I've wondered at times, since I discovered your site a few months ago, how many other USers visited you. Now I know, though I'm guessing that, as a resident of Chattanooga, Tennessee, I still likely comprise a fairly unique Chromasia demographic.

I acquired my first real camera just this past Christmas and have become hooked. And your site has been a favorite inspiration for broadening my awareness of what's possible in photography. Thank you for that.

P.S. Antarctica?!?!

comment by djn1 at 06:52 PM (GMT) on 4 July, 2008

Roy: good point :-)

milou: to be honest I've got a bit fed up of empty landscapes - so quite like the peeps in this one.

Christopher: over the last year I've had 717 unique visitors from Chattanooga, so you're not quite unique. Nashville and Knoxville top the list, with 3,261 and 2,363 visitors, but Chatanooga comes in in 6th place, after Brentwood, Germantown and Memphis.

As for Antartica: yes, I was surprised too :-)

Is the your RSS feed included in those stats?

What about French Polynesia? Very nice shot as usual... I'm not sure I made the right choice when I decided to settle down in Tahiti. This picture is much more interesting than many of my lagoon/islands shots! Oh wait... maybe it's just me!

Love your tutorials by the way!

comment by djn1 at 11:49 PM (GMT) on 4 July, 2008

Thomas: no, my RSS feeds aren't included.

jeralma: there were 206 visitors from French Polynesia. Interestingly, all of them are listed as living in Papeete, which I'm sure probably isn't the case.

like the image overall but am not sure what I'm looking at in terms of the "person" on the left in the red jacket. perhaps it's a failure of my computer/monitor or my aging eyesight, because it looks like a grown chimpanzee in profile, which I'm sure it is not. ;)

Those clouds are fantastic. Great shot!

The usual crop of the photograph is what defines it.

comment by thomas mueller at 09:12 AM (GMT) on 7 July, 2008

i really like the crop and the composition with the two. nice one!

comment by Ted Szukalski at 02:01 PM (GMT) on 7 July, 2008

A very commendable photograph. The usage of space is great in here emphasised by the people for scale and highlighted by basically a duo tone.

nice lonelyness!

comment by cy at 09:13 PM (GMT) on 7 July, 2008

goes to show.... that where someone is posting some really nice work.... an audience will find them. keep up the good work.

i love the hint of the red, white, and blue. i also like the "indepedance" of the couple surrounded by nature. very subtle and well executed.

comment by Rob at 03:08 AM (GMT) on 9 July, 2008

Wow. What a simple yet dynamic landscape. The sense of depth just keeps going and going! The muted colours work well, and I think the couple adds a point of interest to the scene. Very well done!

As a fellow photographer, your work is very inspiring! Keep up the great work!
