It's been a long week, but I've finally finished migrating chromasia to the new server and am fairly sure that everything's now much as it was. From your point of view, nothing should have changed, but from my perspective I feel about ten years older than I did at the start of the week. If you know what you're doing, there's nothing inherently problematic about migrating a website to a new server, but it's not something I have a great deal of experience with and have been running on adrenalin and caffeine for a bit longer than is either healthy or sensible :-)
Anyway, it's done now, and I think it's OK, but do let me know if you come across anything odd, broken or otherwise unexpected. I'd also be interested to hear how fast the new version loads. Our previous server was in London, but the new one is in a datacenter in the US. As such chromasia might seem slower if you're in the UK or Europe and a bit quicker if you're on the other side of the pond. Wherever you are though I'd be grateful of some feedback - just so I can be sure that everything's working as expected.

Rather you than me moving server. I get your feed via Google reader - this is the first post that didn't have a copy of the image in the feed.

I get the feed via Google Reader too, but I didn't have any problem in viewing the image (in Reader I mean). From Italy Chromasia doesn't seem any slower (ADSL 8 Mbit/s).
Ciao

David: it looks like we've discovered the first casualty of the migration: i.e. the .htacess file I use to protect my images folder is massively out of date and I seem to have deleted all the copies of the one I used on the old server. So, if anyone does have a problem with their feed reader, please get in touch.

Hi, from Italy it's quite faster than before; and finaly I can see the news in Google Reader. Keep on with your excellent work, it's inspiring. Congrats!

It's definitely faster for me here in the US.

This works nicely as a 3D Stereo if you cross your eyes a little bit.

Needs training of course...
From Germany the new server is slower, but ok.

It loads wicked fast in Colorado!

I can't really tell a difference when in comes to loading time. If any difference I had the impression of chromasia loading a bit faster even if I am from Europe...
What's this nice picture by the way? Some kitchen stuff?
comment byJennifer at 07:45 AM (GMT) on 29 August, 2008
A bit slower, but not unsettingly from Hungary. This image looks really cool but (for the first time on your site) I can see some quallity loss compared to your DSLRs. Probably the strong color correction (lab?) strenghten the noise. R

The comments page seems to load a lot quicker, and I like the 3d effect when crossing my eyes for this one.
Is it the front of a computer?

lovely shot, but bizarre when I cross my eyes.... makes it look like dozens of purple cricket balls...

I'm across the pond in Maryland and it is much faster. The thumbs page used to be rather slow and almost freeze at times, but now it is lightning fast!
I love the rich color in this shot.

Image upload is much faster for me (Nebraska/USA) on Firefox browser. The images pop up instantly rather than load. I enjoy all your images immensely--and I am completely sympathetic regarding your week with the high-tech aspects. I, too, am curious about the origin of this lovely colored textured image...little button? Little holes?

FWIW, it's very snappy for me in Chicago. Interesting selection of image and concept. Stare at it long enough and you truly begin to lose yourself... just like your past week has been, I'm sure.

Thanks all.
As for this shot: it's a curved aluminium sheet with holes in it. The holes are around 1/2" in diameter.
