My apologies for the total absence of updates over the last few days but we've been busy moving into a new office. Up until now Libby and I have run chromasia from a home office, but we got the opportunity to move into a new set of offices set up to support the creative industries so decided to give it a try.
All being well I should be back to posting more frequently in the near future. I'm currently writing a review of the Tamron AF 11-18mm F/4.5-5.6 Di II LD Aspherical [IF] for Digital SLR User magazine so will be out and about over the next few days putting it through its paces. On that basis, I'd be interested to hear if any of you have used it as it's not a lens I've tried before.
As for this shot: it was taken last summer, when we took the kids to Centre Parcs, and is a shot of Libby, Finley and Tabitha. It's a single image HDR, processed with FDRTools then converted to black and white and toned (using a Curve) in Photoshop.

I have to say it's a bit of a dogs dinner for me, it seems as though its a construct of three seperate images, to the left of your wife, your wife and children and lastly the strange effect on the bush, the contrast seems to vary throughout the image as well, maybe its the HDR effect but it does not make the most of this image, sorry.....

I like the tone mapped effect on Libby and the kids but trees will never ever will look good tonemapped. To save it - perhaps a blend of the org exp and the tone mapped version, kids and Libby in "hdr" and the tree and the bushes in a original normal version..

shooter / marcus: I'm guessing that the absence of any other comments so far would suggest that the "dog's dinner" view of this one is probably reasonable so I've posted another, considerably tamer version instead. The version that's up now is a hybrid - part HDR, part straight conversion.

Very nice
the focus on the tree is a bit disturbing for my eyes, but i like it a lot

Dog's dinner? Sorry! Wrong answer! It has a beautiful "old photograph" feel and it catches a precious moment of peace.

Carlos: shooter did have a point - the previous version was a bit over the top. And if you do manage to visit Blackpool, let me know - I'd be happy to show you around.

Adore the family part but find the vegetation distracting for some reason.

this one is much better than the original post, brings the focus back to the family. Nice shot!

I'm sorry I missed the "dog's dinner" --must definitely be a British expression I'm not familiar with ;-)--would like to see it. But I like this picture very much. It's very earthy and has a certain Mother/Earth/Goddess feel to it.

I reckon this is a really nice photo. Classic black and white family shot.

Very nice! I love the usage of HDR tools for single images (I do it too sometimes). It brings out contrasts and textures much better.
I've used the tamron fisheye for quite some time. Being generally satisfied with it yes, I could have wished for a stronger build. Its very much plastic and a bit flappy from time to time.
At the price its a great lense :) Have a nice weekend.

Just love it! And what I love the most is the feeling of movement and at the same time the feeling it is frozen (forever) as usual a superb catch and nicely done.

Can you show us the image when it was a "dogs dinner" please? I'd like to see what it was like before you changed it...
Cheers
