For some reason, nearly all the stuff I find on Fleetwood beach is man-made - old bottles, buckets, bits of old signs - so it was refreshing to come across something a bit more natural for a change. And I was tempted to produce a much more dramatic image than this one but, somehow, this one seemed better suited to a more subtle treatment.

Definitely dig the more subtle treatment on this one. Love the DOF and the detail in the foreground

I really like this one! Great composition and beautiful b/w!

Excellent shot, Dave! All the lines in this shot are pure nature.

Serene... untouched landscape... reminds me of the novel The Road. Makes want to stay awhile...

The scale on this one's very ambiguous - I take it that it's really quite a small twig. Presumably you must have been very close to get such limited d.o.f. with a 27mm lens or has it been adjusted with the PP? Intriguing image.

at f/5.0 did you blur the very bottom to make a more dramatic DoF thing going on?

Looks nice!

comment by djn1 at 11:34 PM (GMT) on 5 November, 2008

lightseeker: the twig/branch was about 10" high.

Jessica: oops, I copied the EXIF data from yesterday's shot then forgot to update it - this was actually shot at f/3.2, which would better explain the limited DoF.

This one is really pleasing. Landscape is so incredibily simple, but yet very impressive (guess its charm of B&W, shallow DoF and simple forms)

this looks and feels just i as do today. out of place. alone. and perhaps a little graceful after being torn from what you know. the black and white does it perfect justice.

I like the lonely feeling which pops out of this picture very strongly. Exelent BW conversion.

WoW, I like your composition, it's so apocalyptic! The post process fits perfectly with your subject. Still perfect ;)

Cool shot. DoF looks so natural and unnatural here and i like that a lot.

comment by Mirko Herzner at 06:59 AM (GMT) on 6 November, 2008

An amazingly simple picture which works just for its composition and toning. Well done!

David, you're soooo committed. You spend so much time lying on your stomach. :)
I love the uncluttered nature of this shot, especially the beach. Did you have to clone much out ?

Thanks everyone.

Justin: it's a dirty job, but someone's got to do it :-) As for cloning: there were a few bits and pieces that I removed, but not many.

Beautiful out of focus background. I love out of focus images! The color suits perfect with the atmosphere.
