We took the kids down to the beach this afternoon, and while it was cold and windy they all had a good time chasing each other around, playing in the sand, and generally just being kids. I took loads of shots (with my G9) but suspect that this may be the only one I post, a shot of Rhowan playing in the sand.

First i thougt: "How old is she?" Because of her beautiful face. A wonderfull girl and great color combination. I like this kind of "timeless" postproducing.
Super second shot of this series.
In this case, you can't mistake her age, but her expression doesn't look like her age.
The whiteness around her makes her look angelic.
Great overexposure (it's overexposure, right? :))
Love it!
csj: just drop the white point on the blue curve :)
Nicki: she's seven, but when I showed her this one earlier, and mentioned that I thought it made her look older, she said "yes, I look about eight in this one" :)
Ilan: yes, it's overexposed by 1 2/3 stops then pushed a bit further in post-production.
Westy and Pete: thanks.

The pensive and reflective mood of her heart was captured by your photograph... as if she was pondering a weighty decision for the world while playing in the sand...
It's lovely high-key image! I liked the pinkish tint!

Really nice shot Dave. I like the bleached out nature of the image. I must say that I prefer these images to your HDR work. But lets not open up that particular can of worms again!

Awesome Post Processing!LabColor is Power!. Cheers Tomeu. Good Luck!
This is a great capture. Her moods always convey so well. I'm on the fence on the tone. I will come back and look at it a few more times and see if it grows on me. Love the high key, makes for great isolation.

Gorgeous image. Love that you decided on other than pure white. I would have gone with white and I would have been wrong and not known exactly why.

dave,
I don't now you do it so consistently. in my more jealous moments, i chalk it up to you having amazing model like children, and its not fair to us single photographers who don't have our own little models we can carry around with us every day just so we can capture wonderfully moody moments like these.
i am, of course, a big fan of your children photos. the pushed nature of the processing in this image creates a feel of distance for me. in my head, when i think about it, i conjure of the sound of a ringing, you know, like what happens when things get really quiet and you can hear one of the lamps in the rooms electrical frequency...
its a lonesome shot. not in a bad way. you get the impression and solitude is ok here. she looks bored, maybe a little sad.
the pinkish cast to the duotoning gets in the way for me. i don't know if its just me, just how i am today, or what. its not that its pink/red... something about it won't let me resolve the photo (wow, two audio references in one post).
Nice, high-key style processing with a really natural pose of her. The tinting also reflects on the color of sand.

ditto too all the above. I just love the ethereal the pushing and whiting-out gives to the image. You are a great story teller!

"I look about 8" how sweet is that? :) It's a lovely pensive portrait and the overexposure has worked very well.

Dave, a fascinating pic! Not just because it is perfect as a photo, but also because Rhowan here shows a kind of teenager aura having still a girlish think ... for sure she will love it when older.... and on the other hand...for all of us who knows Rhowan since the beginning of Chromasia, it is a shock to remember her as a little baby and see what a very pretty little lady she is at moment! well done both of you!

my eyes keep searching for the background, but somehow this girl is in the way, although she seems maskbrushed into the emptiness behind her. sorry, just to be honest. i've seen way better from you.

Very nice image. No comments. I wonder whether this photograph would inspire the same fillings with any other post-processing. The colors (or any other thing you may have change) were the last thing to come into my mind. Regards.
