We had a great storm last night, here in Bulgaria - the lightning flashed and the thunder rolled - but I was so engrossed in watching it that I didn't manage to take any photographs. Unfortunately the storm was followed by a 16 hour power cut - apparently the transformer in our village was damaged - after which I discovered that our router was fried. So tomorrow I'll be buying a new router and either a surge protector or UPS as I believe that storms are quite common at this time of year.
As for this shot: it was taken at the new mosque in Abu Dhabi during my recent trip to Dubai.

Culture is a small name that hides behind a whole world.
As an Israeli, who blog, tweet, go clubbing, go out and live the "everyday" western life style, I'm faced on daily basis with "cultural meetings" such as this one.
It's not simple.

what exceptional clarity in the tonal contrasts. the white-to-black contrast in the men is so clean yet soft, not a "hard" contrast. and supported by the pillow-soft depth of field. beautiful B/W conversion (via the Channel Mixer process I'm sure.)

Great contrast, on both meanings of the word. Like the fact they are close to each other but still their eyes have not met. All the best.

Very nice colors and tones. But what feels kinda strange to me, is that they are not looking at each other. In a way, the 'cultures' meet only on a physical level but are not really concerned with the other.

Great contrast in every sense of the word.
No doubt psychologists could have a field day with the body language and facial expressions adopted by these two!
May I ask - is this a photomontage?
They are looking past each other. Can the color white be classified as beautiful? I think so... contrasts are awesome.
C.
Thanks everyone :)
Interesting headgear.
