As I mentioned when I posted my previous entry I shot a wedding in Venice at the weekend with Tom Wicky. Tom shot the bride getting ready in the morning then we both shot the ceremony (at Venice Town Hall). Once the ceremony had finished Tom and I took a 45 minute walk through Venice with the bride and groom: Tom shot the 'formal' portraits while I concentrated on recording the less formal aspects of our stroll. I haven't had a chance to work through all of them yet, but did like this one.

Ryan and Catalin: thanks.
Garry: the more time I spend in the rest of Europe the more I realise that Britain has developed a rather OTT health and safety policy - to the point where the Government seems to think that everyone must be a complete and utter moron ;-)

Amazing shot Dave and it completely works. I just can't imagine how you asked for this. "So I'm going to need to bride to bend down and drink from that fountain. Groom, can you help?"

This is such a fantastic shot for the candid moment captured and the tones / contrast. I love the way the people pop off the screen to stand out from the floor and background.

A great shot indeed. In Rome the street fountains have a small hole in the top of the spigot. To use as a drinking fountain you cover the primary outlet and the water comes out the top hole. Is that not the case in Venice?

This brings an immediate smile to my face--besides being a well composed AND most excellently processed B/W (I swear you're giving Ansel competition with your zone work.)

Take your point about UKGOV, Dave: unfortunately, there's no credible alternatve...
I don't know why, but this reminds me of a still from an old Charlie Chaplin film: an old-fashioned tenderness & refreshing humanity shines through this shot!? Lovely stuff! :-)

I just submitted this as an alternative (guerilla?) nomination for Photo of the Year at http://vote.photoblogawards.com/photoblog.php?name=venezia-2. If you love this photo as much as I do, you might want to stop by and vote for it.
Or, of course, you could always vote for the Official Chromasia nomination (http://vote.photoblogawards.com/photoblog.php?name=bsc---workington) :-)

Having been to a few places in Italy (well at least Campania), I notice the Italians do like their drinking fountains, as they are quite common. You don't see that in Britain. This is quite a comical pose and isn't contemporary wedding photography great?!
