Both the previous two shots that I posted, this one, and the next one, were taken during my landscape workshop at the recent Gulf Photo Plus Fotoweekend. One of the the things that I asked the students to do was to bring along some props. Some brought sunglasses, or flip-flops, or other items that you might relate to being in a desert, but one student brought a plastic dinosaur and a miniature Spider Man. Initially, I was a bit sceptical - there isn't much of a link between the desert and a cartoon super hero - but after seeing the shots I think it was a pretty good idea :)
Incidentally, if you've wondering why Spider Man is buried quite so far into the sand, take a look at this shot of one of my students:

At the begging, I was thinking the same, but I really like the contrast between spiderman red-blue colors vs the sand.
By the way, looking at the student I imagine all you finished just like him, with tons of sand in the clothes ;)

sand in the camera. don't go there. I just came back from shooting in White Sands NM, and although I avoided sand in the camera, someone tipped over my tripod and it got in the head. now that sounds like a pepper grinder. ; (
btw, Richard, Spidey's making the ASL character that says "I love you"

Neat shot. Hope you didn't have to change lenses while all that sand was blowing around!

That's funny, that is almost the last thing I would have expected. Spiderman in the sand works, he did fight the Sandman.

this is really good, I thought it was one of your beach-combing shots at first. How did you (and your students) manage not to get sand in your lenses?

I was expecting you to say this was one of your found objects on Southport Beach.

This is really fantastic & amusing at the same time. Looks like it was shot in a studio setting rather than a desert sandstorm. The depth of field, sharpness and colour are astounding..! My son really wants this picture...

At first, I thought you either used a tilt shift lens or used a photoshop filter. Well, it's different David and it brought a smile to my face.......so job done.
Honestly all that travelling for sand.....I tell ya....you can get your hearts desires worth at Fairhaven....and a bouncey castle for the kids.
One day I may even attend one of your courses (pennies being rattled in a jar right now).
