What can I tell you about an abandoned sofa? Not much I guess, other than to tell you that a) it was taken at the abandoned feed mill at Johnson City (TX), and b) is one of Libby's favourites from my trip.
Dave has also posted his version here. He's gone for a slightly less surreal image, and shot from a different angle, but I think it's an equally effective image.

Amazing! The purple leaves are an interesting touch.... kinda mystical!

I like this too - but unlike Christiane i'm not so sure about the purple leaves.

You seem to find something abandon and interesting no matter where you go. Without knowing you were in TX, I would have expected an abandon sofa on the beach. Interesting twist to the color toning. All you now need is the abandon television, in which you did find one of those on the beach.

Nicely done, David (as we expect). I've posted my version today too just for comparison. I like your framing a lot better, though.

I think this photo deserves a title....."untitled #115" doesn't do it justice!

Were you just visiting Austin or were you doing some teaching? I wish I had known, I moved to Austin 2 years ago, and I've yet to engage with the photo community here.

This gives me a surrealistic feeling, great capture!

I like the contrast between the overpowering red and dark, depressing grays in the background. Did you photoshop this to make the contrast more apparent? I also like how the couch isn't exactly centered, but slightly over to the right of the frame.

Chris: yep, a TV would have been good :)
Dave: I think your version works well too.
Phillip: I'm hoping to be back out in Austin for another workshop, probably next year. In the meanwhile though you should hook up with Dave Wilson. He organises a range of workshops and has good links with the rest of the photographic community.
Katherine: if you hover your mouse over the 'show the original' link beneath the image (bottom-right) you'll see that the post-production was quite extensive with this one.

Abandoned sofas are cool. The stories they must have. Love the selective colouring in this shot. Really nice. David.
