Last July I started adding some of my photographs to my (static) weblog, and in Autumn of the same year I set up two Movable Type blogs, one for writing and one for photography (called Synchrony). The latter coincided with buying a Powershot G5, and I was keen to get back into some reasonably serious photography after around ten years of just taking snaps, or nothing at all.
Around about Christmas last year I started having problems with my ISP, so I decided to move my blogs to a ‘proper’ hosting company rather than just use the free webspace provided by my ISP. As a consequence, this blog is now hosted by blogomania (who are excellent). However, one of their conditions is that you must have your own domain name. All the remaining domain names that contained synchrony weren’t worth having, so I decided to rename this site Chromasia.
So, 23 days ago, Chromasia was born. And one of the first things I did was register it on photoblogs.org. Since then 100 people have voted this site one of their favourites, so today is something of a celebration for me. In light of this I’ve spent some time today producing something a bit different from my more recent images. I can’t thank everyone who voted in person (as I don’t know who many of them are), but I can say thank you to those people who visit this site and leave wonderful comments on my images, and those who have discussed my site via email. And I can also thank my wife for putting up with all the time and energy that has gone into this project (including the recent redesign, which has taken up far too much time). And I would have bought you all flowers, but this will have to do instead :-)
So, many thanks to all of you for helping to make Chromasia a success.

Good things can emerge from crises and I guess chromasia is a definate case in point. Not my fave type of flower I must confess, but nonetheless an exquisite picture that captures the delicate essence and beauty of the flower. Well done!!!!!

There's something about B&W flower photos that draw to me. This one says "enjoy my quiet beauty" to me.
Your photos are always so eyecatching and I enjoy viewing them daily. You truly deserve the recognition.

Totally AWESOME shot -- wow!! I could just look at this all day. And congratulations on your success, although with shots like these, you shouldn't expect anything less! :)
Hi Dave, I decided to take a dive into the vault tonight because I remember when you started way back in 2003 and then the amazing photos you started to post using a Canon G5. Several years later I got a G5 myself to go with my EOS 300D from ebay and I paid £220 if I remember. Well by coincidence My Canon G9 arrived this Monday from Amazon (£270) and I subsequently noticed you also recently started to use a G9 (while I was away in Cuba). I'm not sure about you but I was shocked at the amount of noise the sensor on the G9 creates so I thought I would look back at what you were doing 4 years ago on the G5 to see if there was any "real" progress on the image quality front. My own G5 shots although in RAW did not take advantage of noise ninja until this week when I bit the bullet. I would really appreciate your thoughts on the G9 given the limited aperture range the G9 now has, high pixel count and noise issues. What is your real / frank view on it's performance over the G5? as I still have my G5 and so far I'm not sure I should let it go just yet.
Jason: I haven't done a side-by-side comparison, but my impression is that the noise is less of a problem with the G9. On the whole though, I much prefer the G9 to the G5. Yes, the aperture range is slightly more restricted, but it has a much better resolution, it's faster, and it seems like it's probably a bit more durable than the G5.
