When I first looked at this shot I was quite dissapointed with the way it had turned out as what I was after was a very sharp, clear shot of this reflection. But, and this is probably to do with the fact that these sunglasses were only a couple of pounds (piled up in a rack of similarly cheap and tacky ones), the image is dirty, noisy and lacks clarity (and I don’t look too great either ;-). So, while these sunglasses might look ok, they’re probably manufactured from fairly cheap plastic, and the optical quality is clearly somewhat short of spectacular.

But when I thought about it, a dirty imprecise image seemed more fitting for this shot, mainly because it reflects some of the tackiness of the seafront stalls that sell such items – a cheap dirty image reflected in a cheap plastic lens. All that said, I don’ think this is one of my best efforts.

I think the photo is great!

Like the colors and the dark light. Quite nice, I would say. Who are the other people in the photo?

Congrats with a (another)great shot!

Maybe not your best shot but overall I think this is a good one. I like the colors as well as the people walking by trying to figure out what you are doing. Nice image.

What's I enjoy about this one are the layers of detail that keep me looking: first I look at the photographer, then the passers-by (who are they looking at? is that a stroller?), and then I start to see the setting (the pavilion and fences and power lines do suggest an aging seediness) and finally the rivets in the sunglasses, bringing me back to the extreme foreground. It all makes for a rich photo.

you may feel its not one of your best efforts because it wasn't the look you were going for, but I see it as a happy accident. I love the gritty coloured distortion of it - it would make a super cool album cover. The more I look at it, the more I like it, the distorted reality of life.

Are you kidding? Intended or not this is brilliant. I couldn't at first make out what it was exactly but it didn't matter. I was almost disappointed to find out what it was. The empty saturated sky and the almost photocopy quality of the image reminded me of news footage of nuclear testing and the creepiness and stillness freaks me out. Looks like an unnatural holocaust to me. Perhaps that's too much like seeing Guernica on cereal boxes but I love everything about this - except perhaps knowing what it actually is.

nevertheless, your shot was cool!! it's the sort of products that we can meet in professional ad magazines..

I agree with ss comment, this is an excellent shot and the roughness adds to it. Its very intriguing at first and makes you wonder how its done. Your revelation that its sunglasses adds more interest once you see it.

By the way, is it also a self portrait?

I took a similar(ish) shot after noticing a reflection in my own pair of shades - took me over a dozen attempts to get something i was pleased with. You couldn't have timed this shot better; although you can't see anyone's face here you know they're looking at David with an inquisistive/confused expression.

love the distortion and the colours. and you're taking the pictre and the woman seems to be looking at you, wondering what the hell you are doing. and i like the way that story goes. and maybe i just got it all wrong. :)

I agree with the others - the grittiness and general color distortion make this a very arresting image. It would be hard to walk by it without stopping to stare. What is - oh! And is that a - ? Yeah, it is! And who... ? Every time it answers a question another pops up. Rock and roll!

My goodness! The G5's purple fringing is really out of control! :-)
