I took this shot the day before yesterday, but didn’t look at it straight away. We’d gone to one of our local parks and, as always, I took my camera along and took various snapshots of the kids running around. This one was a bit speculative rather than a carefully studied shot, but I really like the way it turned out. And, more importantly, I think it’s a much better photograph than the last two or three I’ve put up.
Lately I’ve been wondering whether to drop back from posting an image a day – I hate posting stuff I’m not happy with – but unless I totally run out of even half decent stuff I think I’ll stick with it. I just wish I could get to the point where I have a reasonable number of shots in hand. Constantly being only one or two shots ahead of myself is a bit nerve wracking at times ;-)

This shot is sooo good...im pretty much speechless... it's just real dang nice! A great use of color (2 color principle), tack sharp, composition, reflection, emotion. Just great!

Very, very cool shot!! And regarding your comment about the image-a-day goal, it's a great goal to shoot for because I think it keeps your skills sharp and developing, but I also think you should cut yourself a break! You've got a boatload of kids, I assume you work full time, AND you're moving house, yes? No point in the picture-taking becoming a chore.
By the way, in my opinion almost every single one of your photos has been worthy of posting here; don't sweat it. :)

Yeah, I have to agree with Judith. Most all of your pics are noteworthy.
I've been plagued by similar thoughts lately, not feeling my stuff is really where I want it to be, especially when looking at some other photoblogger's work out there (including yours, most days). I think to myself that I should not focus on posting each day and instead really throw myself into a subject and get the kinds of shots I'm satisfied with.
And then I realize a coupe of things:
First, that such a notion is pure bullocks! I mean, I should be shooting almost daily. I'm not a professional (most professionals don't shoot every day either), but like my current profession - I only got good at what I do by repitition. Practicing the fundamentals each day.
Second, I really get "harumphed" when I hit some of my linked sites and they haven't been updated each day... or for a few days now... or those that seem to take hiatuses... etc. I look at others sites for inspiration and find my own drive by being inspired by other's work.
So after all that, I hope you'll keep posting daily... because I will... even if I suck compared to you.
David this is amazing shot, I love the kaleidoscope look the reflections creates. As for posting everyday, you know, chill out post when you have time, no need to make it a job :)

I absolutely love this shot. It completely captures the joy and magic of being a child at a park -- the movement, the reflections -- the colors -- in a word? WOW.
I would be very disappointed if I didn't see a photo every day, but at the same time I understand your point about being busy.
The point about the photo's not being as good if you want them to be, I don't agree. I hardly ever get disappointed. You have great skills!
So please keep posting every day.......
PS this one is great. Love the lack of colour and the joyfull moment you captured.

i really like the muted colors, and her happy face and reflections of her hands makes this a very, very good shot! i'm sure she'll be happy to have this to look at while she grows up.

My favourite of the latest shots...
You do some of the freakiest, most beautiful portraits.

I hope you keep posting every day, because I look forward to it. Also if you stop posting every day then the pressure would really be on to make sure that every time you DO post, it's superfantastic. It might actually be more pressure.

Very nice shot. There are so many things I like about this shot that I am not sure if I have time to name them all but most of all I like the emotion that comes through. The photo makes me smile just looking at it and that alone makes it a keeper in my way of thinking.
I do hope you continue posting 'one per day' and commend you for as long as you have done it so far. I look forward to stopping by your site daily. I believe your photographic vision is inspirational to many of us. Maybe one of these days I won't be such a slacker and will start contributing to a site of my own.
Thanks David.

Dave: though you're disappointed in a batch of photos, isn't it true that you're often surprised by what other people see? When you post a photo you don't like, that might be a chance for a discussion of what doesn't work -- more of a "why is this one unsatisfying" discussion.
I know you appreciate good constructive criticism here. You could ask direct questions about photos you're unhappy with.
I can't imagine not seeing one of your daily photos, Dave. Personally, I find your work wonderful, awesome, and beautiful. Your work is a daily dose of inspiration to me.
I'll still visit daily, even if you decide not to post in such a manner.

Thanks everyone. Since I started posting an image a day (which was on the 5th of February, I think) I've had periods where it's been a bit fraught - not because it feels like a job, but because I sometimes find it difficult to come up with enough shots that I'm happy with. But on the whole I think this is a positive thing, and without the 'pressure' I don't think that I'd have made anywhere near as much progress. And as Houser mentioned, practice really does make a difference.
And if I needed any more convincing matto's point is a good one - the idea of having to post superfantastic images, and nothing but, is quite scary, and I do think that the pressure would be worse. At least if I keep up with the image-a-day thing saying "ok, so this one's not so great" is perfectly reasonable ;-)
I think this is one of my new Chromasia favorites. :-) nothing more I can say but wow! Hope I can get to the point where some random shot turns into something so spectacular! Also.. I love the way you explain your photos.. how you got them, where you took them etc.. it really helps in the learning department.

This pic works for me on so many levels - it is such a busy shot yet retains simplicity. The reflection in the base of the slide looks more real than her actual hands which have a surreal water like quality... it's a very natural activity made to look bizarre and unnatural almost - very exciting image, both challenging and pleasing to my eye.
Excellent!! It reminds me of a "hall of mirrors" that they have in funhouses. Also, the shadows/lighting of her actual hands is beautiful and makes them look so vivid. Wonderful Wonderful job!
