I did wonder about trying to come up with something a bit more original for this week's Photo Friday challenge – Black and White – but I've not exactly been keeping up with the challenges all that well in recent weeks (my last entry beat the deadline by six hours), so I thought I'd enter this one now, rather than try and take something else.
On another matter: I don't know how many of you read yesterday's somewhat critical comment from Malin, but one of the points he made was that some of lower ranked sites at photoblogs.org don't get the credit they deserve. And I agree wholeheartedly, so I thought I'd work through my favourites that don't have too many votes and give them a mention here.
First up: Coincidences. Strictly speaking this isn't a photoblog, rather it's a site concerned with "discussions on the art and craft of photogpraphy, and other digressions", but it's definitely worth a visit. The latest entry is concerned with various exhibitions in NYC this summer, the one prior to that is about big color C-Prints, and other entries are about particular photographers, websites, and many other photography related topics.

Dave -- this b&w is very cinematic -- I like the depth of field.
And thanks for the pointer to Coincidences. It's a keeper.

Dave, thanks a lot for the recommendation and for rescuing me from the netherzone at Photoblogs. :-) To be honest, I hadn't really been paying attention to the Photoblogs site for a while (outside of shutterbabe a/k/a Em being photoblog of the month), just because of limited time and the fact that (as you said), I don't really have a photoblog per se, so I don't expect to be visited by people expecting the typical photo per day. (I do keep thinking I need to start a large format photoblog of sorts, just so it will get me out taking more photographs with that behemoth 8x10).
Funny, I hadn't been keeping track of photofriday for a while either, but I visited today (before seeing your mention) and ran through a few of the "black and white submissions", and yours immediately caught my eye. Your digital skills and compositional eye are amazing...I've been taking mostly film-related classes the last year, but I need to get my digital skills up to some level of competency, and work like yours is inspiring as an example.
You used black and white to highlight very distinctive texture and the subtle changes in tone are tasty here as well. Nice job, and thanks again!

This is amazing, the texture and composition are just stunning
oh! take sometimes not excellent photo! :)
Nice shot, for the reasons noted above.
And seeing this photo I can almost hear, coming from the depths of the building, the voice of Gene Widler: "My name is ... FRANKENSTEIN!!!!!!"
... Wilder, not Widler ... Gene Widler never said that, I'm certain ... need more coffee ...
very very beautiful, great b&w, love the grainyness of the stone
Love the composition: cross in the middle of concrete and space... Love the texture, colour and mood! Tks for that :)
The texture and depth is fantastic ... very moody photo ... very much enjoying this one!
ah, this one is absolutely gorgeous. the tonal range is amazing. i can see this being blown up as a huge print and sold in IKEA! :P
