After a few days of really struggling to take any decent shots I took two today that I'm quite happy with, this one and another that I'll put up tomorrow. Both of them are straight shots, but this is the more odd of the two.
As a partial aside: there's an interesting discussion going on at blog.photoblogs concerning monitor calibration, and the reason I mention it is that on my machine this picture looks great (IMO) – deep, rich colours, and so on – but on my wife's laptop, on which most of my images normally look ok, this one looks rather flat and lifeless. I'll be interested to hear what you think.
On a more mundane note: I've done some more recoding to this popup to allow you to directly navigate between entries. The '<<<' at the far left of the bar at the top of the screen takes you to the comments for the previous image, and on any other comment popup other than the one for the latest image 'latest' returns you to the most recent comments and '>>>' takes you to the next. I'm not actually sure this has much practical use but thought I'd mention it in case you didn't notice.
And continuing my quest to offer some exposure for those sites outside the Top 100 at photoblogs.org I thought I'd give a mention to momentánea, a photoblog run by Eduardo Arcos in Mexico City. My favourites include timbres rojos, en Barcelona, 6T, and switches. Eduardo also has an easily navigable archive page not too dissimilar from my own thumbnails page. Enjoy.

Wow, this should stop the criticism you've been getting over the last few days. To be fair I've not been overwhelmed by some of your recent shots but this is ace - it looks plenty deep on my monitor and I love the symmetry.

beautiful image. I've been watching your blog for a while now and love what you are able to get out of a G5. Well done on another stunning image....
I've made you my photoblog of the week this week! :-)

Your wife's laptop has got to be joking. It looks rich and brilliant on my screen. I love the dreamlike quality.

Dave,
As this shot once again proves, you are way more than an 'average 'photographer. Some of your photos are excellent, earning you a much desereved photoblogs top 10. It is true that some of your more recent shots are not exactly the sort of thing you'll see in a gallery, but how can anyone expect every entry, every day to be a work of art? As someone who posts photos everyday, its difficult to take 7 photos a week, nevermind 7 awe inspiring shots. I agree that sites like mine find it difficult to obtain exposure, but it takes time to build a fan base.
Anyone who claims your shots are average has obviously not taken a holistic view and looked too closely at the archive...
As for this shot, fantastic! Lovely rich colours and the blurring is done to perfection. Keep up the good work - we appreciate it.

ditto! (to the above) Re: monitors...I have two monitors a CRT where the gamma is starting to go and an LCD which is brighter, this image looks fine on both of them.

Another very simple subject that has been shot in a way that is very interesting and pleasing to look it. I found that I have looked at this shot several times in the past two days before commenting and I can't really put my finger on what I like about it, I know I just do.
