My father recently returned from a cruise around the Med' on the Queen Mary 2, described as "... the world's largest, longest, tallest, grandest ocean liner ever!", and he brought me this bottle of whisky back from his trip. All of which is my excuse for entering this shot for this week's Photo Friday challenge – Journey.
This is one of around 50 shots I've taken of this bottle, and while it isn't quite what I was after it's the best I could come up with. I often find that attempting pseudo-studio shots is quite frustrating, not least because there's absolutely no excuse for not lighting them properly. This one though uses natural light, with the light from a nearby window coming through the bottle. While it looks as though it might have a rather odd, blurry label, it actually has a clear section at the front, through which you can see the design printed on the back – a scene that shows Big Ben, the Queen Mary, and (not visible in this shot) the Statue of Liberty.
And while I'm really reluctant to do this, especially after posting an image a day for a little over four months, I'm going to take a few days off, maybe a bit longer. As I mentioned yesterday, we're moving house in just under two weeks, and there are a lot of things we need to do as we make our journey from here to our new home. I had hoped to get ahead of myself and have enough stuff to put up during this period, but it didn't work out. So, for the next week or so, other things will have to come first. If I do manage to take some decent shots I'll try to find time to put them up, but I suspect that chromasia may well be lacking in updates over the next few weeks.
And thanks – during the last four months chromasia has gone from relative anonymity to being the most popular blog at photoblogs.org, from having a handful of visitors each week to routinely having 1500-2000 visitors a day, and I'm still quite amazed and delighted by its success. So stay tuned, and normal service will definitely be resumed by the end of this month.

You really have a gift and making the colors really 'Pop' for the viewer. I really like this composition and the I think the blurry section in the middle adds a nice touch. Very nice shot.
Good luck on the house move.

Have a great time moving into your new house - thats wonderfully fun and errrr yeah busy : ) I'll miss your amazing photos but life is for living and breaks are good things! As always, an amazing photograph and I agree with Tom, you truly have a gift for making colours 'pop' and an eye for beauty in all forms!
From one who's been hanging around this site from nearly the beginning, there's a reason why you're number one at photoblogs.org, your photos are consistently superb. Good luck with the move. And don't sweat the lack of updates. I'm sure your fan-base will still remain once you've returned. :)

nice thing to bring back from a travel. Really well done photo and I wonder how the whisky might taste. ;) Now first of all a good move without unexpected troubles!
Dave - let me know if I can help out in some way! --
Great shot -- love the colors -- especially Old Glory!
Take care during the move -- hope all goes well.

Thanks everyone, and thanks to everyone who emailed me wishing me well for our move. As it happens, I've managed to take around five shots over the last 24 hours that I'm happy with, so there won't be a break quite just yet :-)

That's an exceptional idea for the "journey" challenge - and the different orange tones look great !

sure, it's a pretty bottle, but the question we all really want the answer to is how was the whiskey?!! :)
enjoy your time off -- your own "journey" so to speak. looking forward to seeing more when you get back.
Hope the house move goes well. I'm sure that even during that you'll be on the look out for photo opportunities! ; )
Will look forward to the next update.

The colors in this are so vivid. Really nice shot. Have a happy move. :-)
Niiiiiice. The roughish texture of the glass makes it for me. Beautiful colors.
Good luck with the move - we'll miss ya.
One of your best shots for quite a while - really vivid. Have fun moving!
