First, I'd like to thank David for the invitation to fill in while he and his family settle into their new home. I hope the move goes well, and that he can quickly resume sharing his wonderful images with us.
Since they are moving to the seaside, I first thought of posting something... wet. Then I thought of posting a parody.. er, homage.. to one of his images. In fact, I toyed with the idea of a self portrait in Nightingale style, but couldn't find a piece of wood the right shape.
In the end though, I found a better solution. In terms of content, my work is usually quite different from David's, but we both seem to favor colour as a compositional element. So I looked for a recent image that would not seem out of place with the rest of David's work, yet would nevertheless reflect my own aesthetic.
I chose this image of flowers for sale at a market near my house. And having chosen the image for its formal qualities, I realized that it also works well at another level: As the first guest poster, I get to present these flowers as a visual housewarming gift, on behalf of all Chromasia fans.
oh my word -- the colors here are wonderful! a beautiful capture.

To some extent I think the saturarion and the overall contrast of the pic are similar to David's. I see he left Chromasia in good hands. :)

The colors are so distinctive, you can see every single onf one of the petals, and almost even smell the roses. Thank you for sharing your work Neil :).

Beautiful colours and a lovely visual housewarming gift ~ in short, a very nice and appropriate first guest post, as has already been said, it's good to see Chromasia is in good hands whilst David is moving!
Beautiful image with wonderful colors, Neil! And a great sentiment to go along with it all -- well done! Now I'm feeling shakey and nervous - hope I can do half as well.
Hope the Chromasia family is doing well with minimal breakage and calm nerves!

so nice that David chose someone to continue here as a guest poster whilst he is moving. And you made a wonderful start! beautiful shot, gorgeous colors!
It's not Chromasia but it fits in with the site brill - dont get that level of detail without fim ;) The Cromasia family will be pleased especially Dave.
PS
As of this afternoon he still did not have dial up let alone ADSL.
First off: thanks Neil, this is a beautiful image, a beautiful gift, and a great start to the next eight days. And I've spent ages trying to work out (i.e. verbalise) my reaction to this shot, but the efforts of the last day or so have rendered me incapable of saying anything other than that I really like it.
As for our move: the last 36 hours seem to have dragged on for several weeks, but we're moved, we have furniture to sit on, we didn't misplace any of the children, and all in all it's going fine. We won't have ADSL for about a week, I haven't had time to take any photographs, and we're all rather worn out, but other than that things are going remarkably well.
I'm looking forward to dropping in throughout the week.

Great shot. Loved the colors. Also took a trip to your home page and enjoyed it. Its now bookmarked for regular viewing...
beautiful entry Neil, love the colors and composition.
Thanks everyone for the warm comments.
Henry: I like images which engage the senses. For me, this one evokes the sound and feel of that clear plastic wrap as you pick up one of the bunches.
Ryan: Absolutely. There are some things the world was just never meant to see ;-)
Mark: Thanks for stopping by and checking out the rest of my work.
Bob: I'm glad I got to go first, and had only David's photos to worry about ;-)
Neil, this is a beautiful shot, love the colors and the composition.
