It's very intimidating following the talent that has been shared on Chromasia this past week. After seeing the first few guest posts. I have to admit that I was apprehensive about sharing my work in this space. But then I realized that we all have different styles and different things to offer. Thanks Dave for giving me the opportunity to share my perspective with your audience. It's been a great week, but I'm sure we will all be happy to have you back tomorrow.
This image was shot at Brickworks in Toronto. It's an old abandoned industrial brick making complex found in the heart of the Don Valley just north east of the downtown core. This is the top of an old industrial staircase which lead to the top of the ovens.
In recent times, I have gained this appreciation and fascination of abandoned buildings in the Toronto area. There is something intimate and captivating about getting a brief glimpse into our city's past. I have to thank the many other photobloggers who have open these doors before me. You have all been an inspiration.
Thanks Rannie, this is a great shot to end the guest series with. It reminds me of a fire grate, or a series of stepped fire grates, and the exposure and composition are spot on.

Love the DOF and the grayscale from light to dark and back to white as you progress into the shot. The "H" reminds me of my own name as well as my girlfriend's (Helen) :).
The caboose is my favorite car on the train. You've done an oustanding job - and I agree, the pool of talent this week was just fantastic -- lots of new things for David's audience to see and experience.
I really like your image -- at first I thought perhaps these were stairs leading into a freeze (I hadn't read the comments at that point) -- the light on the top stair is so wondeful, and the detail presented made me think of a frosty grate... I also love the door slightly ajar -- it certainly adds to the overall composition... Great job!

Rannie -- ah, the suggestion of snow or powdered sugar is beautiful. and hooray for black and white. -=-Joe

Joe, a light sprinkle of suger would have been a nice thought, it wouldn't surprise me however if it was actually a coat of asbestos.
Thanks for the kind words from everyone so far. I was really concerned about this entry if it would clear the bar. But the more I look at the image, the better I feel about my choice. If you are viewing this in Dave's light or grey stylesheet, switch over to dark, I think it really suits the image here.
Rannie: thanks for the tip about changing the stylesheet. Since adding the different ones I rarely use them (I tend to favour the 'light' one), but in this instance it makes a striking difference - the image is much more powerful against the darker background.

Oh wow, Rannie. Love the "H's." That would be "H" for Heather, right? =)
This is really beautiful.
