Well I guess that pictures of people in trams aren't that popular then, so here's something a little more true to form ;-)

And I don't really have anything to say about this shot other than a) I really like it, and b) that if I were to do it again I'd make sure that the blue stick attached to the windmill was angled the other way round; i.e. bottom-left to top-right rather than vice versa, as I think it slightly unbalances the image this way round. Other than that though I do like this one, albeit something of a clichéd take on the British seaside summer.

Really nice shot. Great colours. Reminds me a lot of Martin Parr!

Bummer about the hotlinkers. I use NetNewsWire to read all my sites and was wondering why the images just went all wonky. Anyway how much post processing did you do to this to get the colors to pop so much? Just upping the saturation or anything else? It would have been fun if you could have gotten some similar blur on the ferris wheel too. Great shot.

This is great! I like that despite all the fun...ism and bright colors, there's still trash on the beach. Awesome, awesome shot, though I would have to agree about the angle of the pinwheel.

comment by Andy at 03:59 AM (GMT) on 2 August, 2004

This picture is great... but I can't help thinking that it's missing something. I'd really like to see it with the ferris wheel in focus as well. Also, how much the pinwheel is moving bothers me too. I think it would be really cool if you used a flash to stop the movement of the pinwheel, but still had the motion blur for the remainder of the exposure. (although with this change, I probably wouldn't want to see the Ferris wheel in focus)

Don't get me wrong, I really like this photo, just think it could be truly great!

Well, I haven't seen anything like it before. I think its a wonderful picture, to say the least.

vivid rolling. yes.

comment by myla at 07:20 AM (GMT) on 2 August, 2004

Actually I disagree -- I think if the stick were going in the other direction you'd feel like the shot was going to fall over (if that made sense), I love the motion and the color in this. It almost looks like your reflection in the middle of the pinwheel, well done!

This shot reminds me of Santa Monica beach here in Southern California- the ferris wheel and bridge right by the sea. This shot is full of motion and live colors!

Another supersaturated shot. Very cool to show focus and time blur in the same image.

comment by Ray at 12:33 PM (GMT) on 2 August, 2004

I'd have prefered the whole shot in focus and I actually think the image works with the wheel leaning in the way it does. The super-velvia super-saturated look is good. I'm off to Blackpool for a couple of days myself soon and now i've got some ideas :)

glorious sunny places, full of sizzling surprises. those colours were written under my eye-lids three years ago, in blackpool.

comment by Frank at 02:23 PM (GMT) on 2 August, 2004

I also disagree about the tilt of the pinwheel. With it tilted as it is, it draws your eyes more to the center rather than the borders -- it feels more related to the Ferris wheel. (Ferris was a person, it should be initial cap..)

comment by Jason D- at 03:32 PM (GMT) on 2 August, 2004

I disagree on the angle of the stick btw. The bracing pole on the ferris wheel adds symmetry. Move it the other way and the whole image would have a leaning right feel like you're falling out of the frame but that's just my opinion :-)

Ack. I have just come back from a 2 week seaside holiday and longed to take a photo like that, I think it's lovely. I'm adding mine to my photoblog as we speak, there's nothing like the good old British seaside is there ?

comment by Danielle at 08:40 PM (GMT) on 2 August, 2004

this picture just brings thoughts of happiness and summer.

the building in the background to the right seems a little out of place though. still, i absolutely love this picture, great work :)

wow, the swirl is just gorgeous!! as well as the colors!

comment by matto at 09:12 PM (GMT) on 2 August, 2004

Is this in Blackpool? I love your shots from there, and this one is great.

Commenting because I had to also disagree about the pinwheel stick. I think it's a completely moot point frankly, but if I had to choose I'd leave it as is.

comment by Diana at 09:42 PM (GMT) on 2 August, 2004

Wow. This is a gorgeous picture.

comment by lynn at 09:56 PM (GMT) on 2 August, 2004

it's ALIVE! what can be lovelier that that?
(and trust frank to know about things like Ferris: wonderful..)

comment by Jasper at 10:19 PM (GMT) on 2 August, 2004

This picture really has a 'summer-feel' to it. I like it and I don't agree with some others concerning the dof (ferris wheel out of focus).

comment by Zero at 10:27 PM (GMT) on 2 August, 2004

This shot is right up my alley. I love the blurred colors and the sense of motion is great. It looks like it's moving super fast.

comment by Maxine at 01:09 AM (GMT) on 3 August, 2004

Another crazy creative pic. Love it! The idea and the result are beautiful. Well done :)

-NICE COLORS...Great shot!

comment by Reza at 07:40 AM (GMT) on 3 August, 2004

Nice shot....very good eye...I would think the direction of the stick is fine as it leads the eye towards both the wheel and swirl.

comment by James at 04:09 PM (GMT) on 6 August, 2004

Jesus! this one really jumps off the screen, well done.
