Today was our next to youngest daughter's third birthday, and I decided that I wanted to put something up that was shot on the day. I did take quite a number of birthday related images – a birthday badge, the candles on the cake, the many and varied plastic toys – but I didn't like any of them as much as this one.

I have discovered this blog a few days ago and I only find it .. more than beautiful, I'm impressed by every picture, there is something charming in all.
The colors of this one are so beautiful that I decided to make a comment... the only thing I forgot, is that I don't speak English.
So, I'm sorry about the poor words I used and the mistakes I made, I only wanted to tell you how much I love your ideas and your way to take photos, I would like to be as gifted as you...
so thank you for all the moments you share with us, and congratulations for all the beautiful photos you take

great perspective/framing, but a tad too red skin colors IMO.
happy birthday to your daughter.

As always, great photo.
I was somehow expecting this one to be in sepia like your last two beach pictures, but the vivid colors really make it stand out.
Happy birthday to your daughter.
Cheers.

Convey my birthday wishes to her. I've been visiting the site for some time now but this is my first comment here. Love the colors in this one and that framing...

For anyone who's just tuned in I slightly toned down the redness of the skin colour as per nordilux's suggestion.

Happy third birthday next to youngest! The colour in this one is quite festive and party-like, and the illusion that the sand/horizon goes on infinitely is, I would like to think, a nice pictorial metaphor of the infinite horizons and possibilities that await this youngster...

Looks like you'r favorite shooting style is also shutter priority :) It must have been very sunny that day. Only thing I don't get is how you get so intense colors without loosing details (it can't be only a contrast adjustment, am I right?)
comment byn3on at 01:51 PM (GMT) on 29 August, 2004
Erm, my mistake, I meant aperture priority :)
comment bydjn1 at 02:03 PM (GMT) on 29 August, 2004
n3on: yes, I'm quite fond of aperture priortity.
As for the intense colours: in this instance they're the result of a mild application of Fred Miranda's Digital Velvia Pro plugin and some slight alterations of the overall colour balance with Selective Color in PS (mostly to lift the reds and yellows).

I love the colours here. Perhaps the aperture could have been a bit smaller, but it's still one of my favourite shots I have seen for a while. Well done!
