When I looked at this shot yesterday I decided that I quite liked it, but today I'm not so sure – let me know what you think. Oh, and in case it isn't obvious: it's one of those laser-etched glass things. Well, actually it's two of them, but you can only see the detail in the one on the left.
On a side note: this shot is a good reminder that you should make sure you're intuitively familiar with all the relevant settings on your camera. In this case you'll note that the ISO is set to 800 and the shutter speed is 1/800; i.e. I forgot to check and change it before taking this shot which could obviously have been shot at ISO 100 without any difficulty. At this resolution the effect isn't noticeable (not least because this shot was run through Noise Ninja but there is some loss of detail as a result.

The majority of this being off-focus hurts my eyes.. What _IS_ in focus though, I like.

the focus choice throws me off a little bit. To me its the opposite though, at first I was thrown off, but the more I look at it the choice of subject and lighting elements seem more appealing.

I love each one of your images. they are all so great. very inspiring.

I don't know what those round globule shaped things (unfocused objects?) behind the wizard glass block, but I think they look cool and add an interesting aspect to the picture.
now this one i love! the DOF is great -- the other unfocused objects only help to reinforce the sharp etching. and the colors too are great. nice work!

THIS is ISO 800? Unbelievable. Your work is always so sharp and clear. I wonder if it is the difference between Canon/Nikon or if I am doing something wrong in my workflow. I would love to have work this beautiful at 800.

This shot is strange, I think it has also a strange position for focus point but probably all this things togheter makes a nice composition.
I like this photo.

yes yes yes! something about this just really does it for me. sorry, can't quite explain though.
Yep, this is nice. I like the broken up image of the etching from the facets of the glass. The warm sparkly colours in the top right are nice too, the whole image kind of reminds me of looking in a shop window at Christmas when it's all cold outside.
BTW, when are we getting some family portrait stuff? ;0)

i love this image for one because it's not obvious at first glance what the object is. once the eye has figured it out it is more a play on focus/ not focus - colours - lights - atmosphere. all in all: i love it (never thought these tacky laser-etched things could actually look so appealing ;-)

At first it seemed like Haloween theme...very interesting. I like the clarity of the object on the left.

Thanks everyone.
Jarod: I don't know what the "round globule shaped things" are either, but I'm glad you like them.
picturegrl: yes, it's ISO 800 but it was processed with Noise Ninja, it makes a big difference to noisy images.
