Today was another "oops, I've run out of time to take photographs" day so here's a shot of our two eldest daughters having fun with some sparklers :-)
Update: My wife has just reminded me that November 5th is a peculiarly English celebration, so for those of you not familiar with the Gunpowder Plot and Guy Fawkes' attempt to blow up the Houses of Parliament in 1605, here's the poem/nursery rhyme that inspired the title for this shot:
Remember, remember the fifth of November,
Gunpowder, treason and plot.
I see no reason why gunpowder treason
Should ever be forgot.
Guy Fawkes, Guy Fawkes
'Twas his intent
To blow up the King and the Parliment,
Three score barrels of powder below
Poor old England to overthrow.
By God's providence he was catched
With a dark lantern and burning match.

Whoa jeez, that's the craziest picture I've ever seen. The movement of the sparklers are so crisp and clean. It's as if you caught the movement of a firefly. Once again, you've taken a drab moment and made it into magic. Keep up the good work.

This is fantastic, and definitely will be one of their favorite photos when they grow up =)
Very cool shot, Dave. Did you use an 80A filter to keep the light trails so white?

Interesting, we've just learned about that in my World History class. This photo by the way, is very fun. =) Cool shot and I'll be back to visit more

Very nice to get away from those hackneyed shots of skybursts and catherine wheels. Very original fireworks shot. Well done.

Thanks everyone.
Alec: no, I don't tend to use colour correction filters. Because I shoot RAW it's much simpler to set the white balance after the shot when the image is converted.

Heh, looks like there's some of us on the same wavelength. I posted an image on my blog that sparklers play a rather large part in...
I tried fiddling with the white balance on mine to see what it would look like if the sparks were quite white like this, but it didn't suit it. However yours does suit it really well. I'm off to buy some more sparklers in a while and I'm going to try some shots like this. I just wish I had a seperate flash gun that I could fire a few times during the exposure. Do you think this would add a bit more interest to your shot also? Very nice all the same.

Hi Dave, Great photo! Thanks for taking the time to give me some much needed advice for my site.

I'd expect nothing less than n original firework shot from Chromasia, this is refreshing and simple, which I like. If they were spelling their names like I used to when I was a kid tht would also be wicked!

Thanks again.
Daaave: ok, I'm going to wait a while them shamelessly rip off that idea. Well, probably not – I wish I'd thought of it though ;-)
Matt: you're welcome.
JamesK:t they might have been, but I suspect not :-)

Dave, go for it! I never have a problem with someone seeing something then making their own interpretation on the same theme. I'd be flattered, after all... you are 'Mr Photoblog' ;)

Peterv is right, it's so good to have completely new firework shots. This one is like watching pure energy!

Why are you such a better photographer than me! LOL Seriously, you're an inspiration. This is such a fun image, and the fact that it's your daughters makes it all the more special. You seem like a really fun family. :o)
