I've been going through the shots I took of my friends' wedding a couple of weeks ago as they're back from honeymoon in a couple of days and I needed to sort out a preview gallery for them. And while I was doing it I came across this shot, and I'm not sure that I can explain it, but I find this a very relaxing image to look at. It's unlikely that it will be incorporated into the wedding album, but there's something about it that works for me.

To me it's a very sad looking image. As if this woman is at a funeral and in mourning. Perhaps holding something of sentimental value.

A very strange image , not relaxing at all as I find it a complete puzzle. A woman's hand, and a very masculine jacket. You seem to have taken some fascinating photographs at this wedding. Really good observation of the 'other' people, the guests.

Melancholic wedding picture, ring worn on the thumb, woman dressed in drab grey masculine attire...
Calm it may be but it is also quite engaging.

I looked at this shot.. and thought, WOW.
Her hand is all I can see.. it's so alive, there.. human. I wouldn't consider her coat masculine or anything in that respect, its just.. unimportant, cold.. and gives the photo a very relaxing feel. Definitely british ;)

I know what works for me... the thumb ring. Indicates that she likes to .. well.. .... ... *ahem* .. umm.. wear jewelery :) Etc.

This is a really cool shot. The woman's hand and the colorful object she is holding just pop out because everything else in the photo is basically black and white. One note of criticism is that the right edge seems a little 'soft'.
I like the "drabness" of her jacket and the fact that her arms lead your eye into the centre of the image where she is holding the confetti. The ring on the thumb sugggests she be a little alternative and the overall image leaves me wanting more.
Great Photo.

Nice hands are always a good "target" for a camera. Nice shot!

this is so lovely: full of elegant little contrasts, and imbued with an enigmatic feeling of intimacy. it makes me wonder, and imagine, and what can be better than that?

Thanks everyone.
Jarod: yes, if I didn't know the context I would have said the same. I suppose that the advantage I have is that I can remember her expression as I took this shot – she was smiling – which, had I included her face, would have greatly changed the mood of the shot.
peterv: almost ;-)
miklos: I won't ask ;-)
Tristan: I kind of like the softness at the right, it isolates her hand better.

I was suprised that others found this shot melancholy...I mean, once explained, I can understand what they are saying, but I still get more of a calm, relaxed vibe than anything else. I guess since you said it was at a wedding I just imagined the smile on her face. Lovely shot.

Beautiful. What is she holding? Is it some sort of wedding favor?

Do you want to excuse me for my bad English?
I pass often here.
I like your photography. I wish you good Sunday. I pass by again later.
