Over the last month or so I've been attempting to photograph various of Blackpool's attractions – this is the Pepsi Max Big One at the Pleasure Beach. And while I like the colours and the cluttered composition I should have shot this with a little more DoF. The problem I had was that it was really windy so I used f/4.0 to get a high shutter speed. I guess I could probably have dropped it a little and upped the ISO and gone for f/8.0, which I suspect would have brought the foreground into focus too.

I like the flattening the long focal length has given it, but I agree it all needs to be in focus. At first I thought it was over saturated, but I guess it's the afternoon light and the subject matter as much as anything. As usual, great composition, the way it goes away to the left.

I wondered also if the brick structure near the front was a little too saturated. I like the composition though - despite the amount of forground detail, there's a nice pattern to the umbrella structures and the lamp-posts. Be cool to get a photo just as you go over the top of that rollercoaster ;-)

and that dramatic sky makes a perfect background -- looks like it's going to storm any minute.

I love Blackpool, especially at this time of year. :)

Is it just me? Or do deserted theme parks give you the creeps? There is one near me that I always intend to photograph. The cloudy skies just improve the effect :-).

Ahhh... how I've missed my nightly photoblog surfing. This one looks like some sort of histogram to me. Something about all the messiness at the bottom and then this clean structure rising above it all... very much like a graph. I'd love to see it in black and white or sepia, just for fun. :)

I've looked at this image for several minutes now (which is a notable acheivement) yet I'm still left wondering what's the point, where's the mood or atmosphere, what did this mean to the photographer and why can't I get anything out of it. Apparently color and composition alone don't equal great or memorable images. What moved you, what did you react to, what was your intent?

Ed: As he says: "Over the last month or so I’ve been attempting to photograph various of Blackpool’s attractions" ... but I think the real intent is just to keep the "photo-a-day" going. There shouldn't be psycho analysis behind all photographs. They're just snapshots of life. Everyday things.. We don't have much time on this little planet so why not absorb everything that anyone has to show us?
One thing I do wonder though is how that building on the right became skewed. Is that the lens? photoshop? or is it really like that architecturally...

didn't mean to be presumptious there david by saying it's to keep the "photo-a-day" up.. :)

peterv: it's a combination of the late afternoon sun and an increase in contrast. I probably should have desaturated this one a little.
kyle: I don't know. I don't think they bother me, but I do know what you mean.
Ed: miklos is partially right. First and foremost this is an image a day shot rather than a carefully crafted shot. Well, it was carefully crafted, as far as it went, but it's still just an 'image a day'. But I did mean what I said about trying to photograph various of Blackpool's attractions – this just isn't one of my best efforts ;-)

Well, I do like the lighting, the colors, and also the geometry of the foreground.
This rollercoaster looks like a clipped histogram to me :)
