This is the last but one of the shots that I took last weekend in London, and other than that I don't have a great deal to say about this one other than that I like the contrast between the sharp metallic feel of the foreground and the almost organic nature of the roof at the top of the image.

Oh, and chromasia's on autopilot again today – I'll be back tomorrow.

The guy behind djn on the escalator: "HAH look at that weirdo all hunched over.. what's he doing? AHH .. he's taking a picture.. what a weirdo!"

Anyway. It's kind of neat to see the DoF lined up with the guy on the right. That's the first thing I noticed when the page loaded.

First comment.

Let's do a dance...

Nice off-the-cuff shot, pity about the shadow over the sign in focus. I like the light and shadows in this space and the fact no one's face is in focus.

I wonder what would happen if you stood on the left. Something bad to warrant all those signs I guess... :)

I've tried these shots just about every time I've been to the city and I NEVER manage to get anything in focus. I'm impressed. Nice!

miklos, youre a weirdo buddy!!! ;-)

what if the autopilot goes on strike? what then? no new images on chromasia? hehehe. this looks like westminister tube station... great shot.

Something that I like about chromasia, is that it give us the chance to know a diferent contry ( well at least that's my case) in a very colorfull, creative and smart way. Sometimes it makes me relate places in UK (or london ;)) , with places near to me. The silver color gives me the sensation of Mexico city airport where I used to be every summer. :)

It would have been nice to have had a little more depth of field on
this one, but understandalbly you were probalbly hand holding it.
How about cropping a few centimeters off the bottom? For some
reason this makes the forground sign less obstrusive and draws my
eye past it. I enjoy your website.

It's hard overcoming the looks that miklos mentioned from others. I still have a hard time getting shots sometimes because I wonder what others will say about me pointing a camera in their direction. It seems that alot of people these days are super paranoid about people taking pictures. Do you get odd looks or even comments from people when getting shots like this? Maybe the paranoia is more something in America? Do others in different countries experience this type of paranoia?

I see those signs all the time... do you think they're trying to tell us something?

I adore your photography when it shows everyday life and this is my everyday life! I like the contrast between the steel and the human form transported by it. In my view this is an excellent shot.

Great shot, and great timing for getting the text in focus with that shallow dof on a moving escalator!

About paranoia - yes I get real nervous around people when taking photos, but I'm getting better at it. I live in Oxford (UK) and because of the large numbers of tourists you don't really stand out if you're pointing a camera at something. Also I tend to be listening to music on nice big headphones when out and about, which makes me a bit more oblivious to people making 'weirdo' comments!

"Please stand on the right. Please stand on the right. Please stand on the right..."

Very apropriate title. I like the colours and the peculiar focusing of the sign and the man on the right. The wall and the ceiling in the background look nice and interesting as well.

Great shot. What station is that - Westminster / Jubilee?

I think Miklos dance takes the cake today! :)

I love this.

The dept of field is great in this picture, it gives it some extra demention. I must admit I expected a bigger aperture like 1/1.8 with a 50mm lens when I first saw the pic. (I like to gues before I look at the info.) Also the light v. dark parts looks great, you must have made some compromises to the exposure. And that on a rolling stairs! Great work.

And as far as taking photos amongst people, it's far easier in bussy places. Personally I never had bad reactions in big cities or touristic places, though in small towns people tend to react a bit sceptical. Just be nice and ask with your body language, people usually don't mind.

BTW, Dave did you create the structure of this website completle by yourselves, or is there some standard template/structure that you worked from? I ask this because many photoblogs have a structure like yours, so either they copied it because yours is great or there is a basic template somewhere.

I am bussy creating my own photblog, I can make pictures but a website... Anyway the high standards on you're blog are a great inspiration.

cheers! (sorry for the long comment(s))

It's a nice shot about information overload in our daily lives too. Keep up the good work!

i really like the colors in this composition.
it's gives something like an urban cave feel.

Thanks everyone.

Miklos: cool dance ;-)

frisky: yes, I think it is Westminster. And I don't think there'll be any problems with the autopilot, at least I hope not. It's just a cron job that runs a short script, so it's nothing too complicated.

Jason: I don't think anyone would have noticed me taking this shot as my camera was just sat on the handrail of the escalator.

Your pictures are great but what sloppy grammer. You use "shot's" - come on! If you're unsure, please read www.apostrophe.fsnet.co.uk.

comment by luca at 05:12 PM (GMT) on 24 February, 2005

grammar! lol

comment by djn1 at 05:27 PM (GMT) on 24 February, 2005

luca: I'm reassured that my grammar is as bad as your spelling ;-) I've fixed the apostrophe.
