I know this is pretty similar to yesterday's shot, but I couldn't resist putting it up as I think I probably prefer it. It's not as serene as yesterday's, but on the whole I think it's a stronger shot. Let me know which you prefer.

Update: I've decided to enter this one for this week's Photo Friday challenge – Glow. It's not quite as directly relevant to the theme as I'd like, but I think it's close enough :-)

Sweet.

comment by Adriana at 09:13 PM (GMT) on 24 March, 2005

I prefer this ones. I also wonder where those colors came from?

comment by mark at 09:37 PM (GMT) on 24 March, 2005

very cool...love this one.

comment by David at 09:43 PM (GMT) on 24 March, 2005

Colours look like a flourescent tube with a colour filter of some kind. That orange looks kind of the same as a streetlight???

nice pictures, I think I prefer yesterdays picture actually. I think it was the droplets on a diagonal line, rather than these ones in more of a square line (if that makes sense) ;-)

Another great shot. I think I prefer yesterday's though. I think your DOF was ever so slightly better placed and I like the angled viewpoint. I also like the serenity of yesterday's. This one seems just a bit busy, as well. All picky details, and both are good.

comment by tyggy at 09:58 PM (GMT) on 24 March, 2005

it's better than yesterday's

I think i perfer todays... Less purple ;) It looks so computer animated. Nice.

I think I like this one better. I tend to gravitate to blue much more but I really like the yellow addition in this one. great job.

magnificant shot! I think both shots are great but I prefer this one too! Congrats for being nominated amongst the finalists at The Photobloggies! I've voted already!

im going to go against the grain here, i perfer yesterday image

comment by Adrian at 01:37 AM (GMT) on 25 March, 2005

I've been lurking this photoblog too much time. I need to tell you that your photographs are really awesome. I think this one is better than yesterday's, because of the colours. Voted for you on the Photobloggies. Good luck.

comment by David at 02:39 AM (GMT) on 25 March, 2005

There you go! I agree with your assessment of the two. These are more uniform in shape and pattern, but enough of the drops have an interesting variance to keep it fun. Also beautiful colors.
I've never done any mirror shots, so I don't know what caused the faint second reflection on several of the drops - is it avoidable?

comment by sylvainman at 03:11 AM (GMT) on 25 March, 2005

i think i am the only one who prefer the yesterday's shot. i prefered the graphism, the constrution, and the colours. in this one there are too many things to digest. i'm sorry, i would like to explain more my opinion but the shakespeare's language is not mine...

comment by Jason Wall at 04:18 AM (GMT) on 25 March, 2005

defnitely the stronger of the two David.

comment by marc at 04:49 AM (GMT) on 25 March, 2005

david... great shot, definately like the yellow band in all the drops, having it appear definately adds something to the shot

was wondering if you could describe your set up so we could get some insight into the shot and what is causing the yellow band, it would be mush appreciated

This looks really nice with the black and the dark theme. Good choice for this week's Photo Friday challenge.

comment by peter at 07:15 AM (GMT) on 25 March, 2005

Both excellent shots, but I prefer yesterday's. For me, the colour gradient and the shape of the droplets make it a more pleasing picture to view.

comment by Antoine at 09:22 AM (GMT) on 25 March, 2005

Just magic!
I prefer this one too!

comment by fernando at 12:45 PM (GMT) on 25 March, 2005

they're both so similar it's really a matter of taste, i personaly like the absence of colour in the first one

comment by hungaro at 03:35 PM (GMT) on 25 March, 2005

comment by m d at 05:06 PM (GMT) on 25 March, 2005

Well, I always try not to think in terms of "I like" or "I don't like"... but since you're asking for this kind of judgment, I'd have to say that yesterday's shot was more pleasant to my eyes. I mean... This one's cool too, but I wouldn't look at it for too long, I can't find the entry and exit in the composition, it might be a little too uniform and "in your face" for me. The other one, I ended up staring at it for a while. there was tension and release, subtlety in the tones...

But, yeah, it's a question of taste, and it looks like most people wouldn't agree with me, including you, so I'll just shut up and go back to taking pictures ;)

comment by Adam at 06:41 PM (GMT) on 25 March, 2005

I like this one for how random the droplets are. Yesterdays almost seemed to organized for water. Nice touch. Is that simply a light above the mirror?

comment by djn1 at 07:09 PM (GMT) on 25 March, 2005

Thanks everyone. As for how this was done: it's just drops on a mirror under a fluorescent light. The colour cast – purple(Ish) at the bottom and silvery at the top – is partly a consequence of the uneven lighting, which I later exaggerated in Photoshop.

comment by disneymike at 08:25 PM (GMT) on 25 March, 2005

I really love this! What an ingenious idea. Strangely enough, I couldn't discern that it was drops on a mirror until I read your explanation. Very cool. I'll have to try a shot like this sometime. The composition and detail are superb. :)
