This is the last of the shots that I took on the train the other day and in a muted, change of pace sort of way, it's possibly my favourite of the last three. As always though I'd be interested to hear which you preferred.

And to keep you up to date with the kitchen saga: the electrics are now finished (bar one spur for a socket that I'll put in later) so I'm going to take a break from it for a couple of days. A break that will hopefully include some time for some photography :-)

Acctually i prefer the other two, this is a little more "banal"

I just love this shot. there are so many stories in her gaze. beautiful photo.

I like this one

This is my favorite (I so cannot get pictures of strangers...), yesterday is second favorite, and first is last favorite. Again, I like the toning on this one.

comment by Furitsu at 09:36 PM (GMT) on 8 April, 2005

Gorgeous. Dreamy.

comment by Peloria at 09:43 PM (GMT) on 8 April, 2005

This is definitely my favorite. I feel like I can identify with this person, lost in meandering thoughts...

comment by daisies at 09:48 PM (GMT) on 8 April, 2005

This is definitely both a favourite of the series and a favourite of yours - there is something very poignant in her gaze, in the thoughtful and provoking expression still and lost in the world rushing by blurred and obscure. Yeah, I really love this one :)

comment by Guilherme Pinto at 09:52 PM (GMT) on 8 April, 2005

I like this one best. The tones are gorgeous, giving a feeling of an old picture.

Your stuff is so consistently interesting, in composition and subject, that I find a small satisfaction in the occasional post that doesn't grab me. "Ah, see, he's mortal after all, and there's still hope for me...", and this was the spirit in which I enjoyed the first two. The third, however, I once again find simply beautiful and compelling and something that not only holds my attention now but I will see repeatedly in my mind over the next week or two. Thanks for all your hard work on this great blog, truly an inspiration for me.

Definate fav. I'm interested, though, in what makes this "banal", fernando?

comment by mr b at 12:32 AM (GMT) on 9 April, 2005

amazing , this is the best of the train set, the others are good in there own way but overall i love this one, i think .

comment by nogger at 01:12 AM (GMT) on 9 April, 2005

My order is yesterday's, then the day before, then this one. Out of step again.

comment by Phil at 01:32 AM (GMT) on 9 April, 2005

It is a toss up between this one and the previous one. I like black and white pictures that (seem to) show angst, dispair or lonliness.

However, this one is very dream like. very evocative in a pastel and muted way.

After some thought I would have to go with yesterdays....but with the admission that on another day or in another mood, I might choose this one!

Incredibly beautiful shot...

she looks like an old painting.

comment by kate at 02:32 AM (GMT) on 9 April, 2005

timeless. very beautiful. amazing how you constantly surpass what seems to be unsurpassable when you shoot these series. :)

comment by Alex at 03:36 AM (GMT) on 9 April, 2005

I just absolutely love this shot. For some reason, it doesn't _feel_ like a typical Chromasia shot. Such great colours and contrast between subject and the hustle around her.

comment by Ryan Rahn at 06:35 AM (GMT) on 9 April, 2005

Wow! Great shot! This one is definitely better.

Wonderful.

comment by hungaro at 06:48 AM (GMT) on 9 April, 2005

great

comment by david at 06:54 AM (GMT) on 9 April, 2005

this is one of your best shots in a long while. I am a regular visitor and only comment when something really grabs me and this certainly did. Good photos look pleasing to the eye. Great photos tell stories...

comment by Zishaan at 07:04 AM (GMT) on 9 April, 2005

The third one is my favourite.

comment by Michael Durczok at 09:23 AM (GMT) on 9 April, 2005

This is the best one. I even see what is goin on in her mind.....
I also like the world of trains...but from outside. Thats why I like our point of view.
Maybe You can have a look.... in my archive {railways}

Interesting indeed.

Very evocative. David I have been looking at your work sometime, but this is my first comment. What you do with reflections is really quite amazing. Though I'm certain you get plenty of practice. [Taking the train] The color in this one is really the draw.

Definitely this one is the best.
I've seen many pictures based on this idea, so I couldn't say it's very original.
But it's nice, balanced, it has the nice parallels leading to the face, and the clouds sinking in it. The look is the strongest point for me (and probably the only possible center). Which is why I wish this lonely eye were a little more focused.

This picture -to me- is the incarnation of train travelling. It includes everything: landscaspe rushing by, people passing time & looking out of the window, contemplating, fixing distant objects occasionally, thinking, sleeping, listening to the rattling train, passing time....it's speed vs. calmness, blur vs. sharpness. Very, very beautiful.

comment by animoid at 06:02 PM (GMT) on 9 April, 2005

Oh, and I forgot to mention that I especially like the colors here: the outside is a green and blue blur, whereas the girl has a sepia tone.

Thanks everyone, I like this one too.

Bello! Che magnifica: premuroso, sognante, pacifico. Amo realmente questa fotografia. Congratulazioni.

This almost looks like a postcard out of 19something.....I think it is of an amazing beauty!

comment by Andreas B. Amble at 06:53 PM (GMT) on 11 April, 2005

Hi David!
Brilliant picture (and I never use that word, so it has to be something special, hehe)
One guy up here said he didnīt like it because it was too banal.. Maybe that is just what I like about it.. just esthetic..
- you can always put lots of meaning into a picture, but usually I drop that part.. I just look at it, if it doesnīt give me anything I skip that picture, paining or what ever it is.. But when I first find something, then... hehe

comment by Jem at 08:00 PM (GMT) on 11 April, 2005

Love this image David! I love the pinky colour with the greens and blues :)
