I had a great time last night with Paul and John and we spent about three and a half hours taking shots of the moon, each other, the weird structure at St. Annes, the sea, and a whole host of other things. And I really wish that I could say that this shot was a prelude to a sequence of wonderful shots from our evening together, but it's not. For one reason or another this is probably the only shot I'll be putting up as the rest just aren't up to it. Some are blurred, some are just not very interesting, and the others didn't work out for numerous other reasons (mostly related to pilot-error).
But no matter, it was a good night. John has already put up a companion shot to this one, a portrait of me and Paul, and Paul has posted a fisheye shot of the weird structure at St. Annes (which is actually the end of the pier prior to it burning down a number of years ago).

Woah! beautiful! I love it...The colours especally! And the reflection of the sky in the water...this has to be one of my favorite pictures yet. And the little dots in the background...nice prospective. I love it.

Colours came out really well Dave, water has a mirror like feel. I enjoyed it, thanks for driving us about ;)

I love it. At first i was thinking, "Hm, the colors in the sky are a little dim and subtle." However, the more i looked at it, the more those colors brought a sense of comfort and peace in the picture. Very nice.

Fantastic images from all you chaps .... really nice work. I was going out tonight -- but it's now raining -- I kind of got blanked this cycle -- but you picked up the slack! Nice work, David! Just outstanding...

Very nice. Only after looking at it for a while that I discover it is also an “action” photo. The closer photographer in the picture moved during the three second exposure and created a neat effect.

Wonderful stuff. Of course the colors are amazing, but also the particular depth of field, making the lights along the horizon (which are an amazing touch) nicely soft. Great, great job.

The blues and purples in this shot look great.

Such a sharp shot in such lack of light !! I think the shot costs 3 hours and half to spent for .
comment byChris at 10:07 AM (GMT) on 26 April, 2005
The subtle contrast between the pink and the multitude of blues is great. I can't decide if I'd have liked it better had the other photographers not been in the frame, but their presence is definitely interesting.

Wet shoes and great colors! I'd be interested in hearing more about some of the technical problems with your shoot - night photography is tough!

I like your brief narrative about how this shot came to be. Last Thanksgiving my brother Andrew and I spent a couple hours in front of my parents' house photographing late night traffic on the busy highway. It's one of the most fun picture taking memories I have. Thanks for sharing a piece of your own experience. Your photoblog has been inspirational for me to start my own.

Gorgeous shot, as most have said. The points of light behind the moving photographers bring in our interest after we've appreciated the brilliant colors here. Really fine work.

stunning shot. I love the colors here and how they just work off of each other, even in the reflection. nicely done.

Thanks everyone.
David: the problems I had with this shoot were mainly my own fault. I took one sequence of shots without properly checking the focus, I took some with my fisheye which aren't blurred as such, but aren't clear either, and I took a load more that simply weren't interesting. I'll try and get out again while we still have the moon and see if I can take some better shots.

Wonderful photo! great wallpaper! ;-)
Just a little question: how or where can I learn more about technical term like:
lens, focal length, aperture, shutter speed, shooting mode, exposure bias, metering mode, image quality, RAW converter, cropped?
And what do they entail about the photo the range value that this "functions" do.
Sorry for my bad english, I'd like to learn more about this wonderful "world".

Are you trying to make photography a team sport? Maybe if all three of you went out with one camera?
Anyway, the colors obviously are lovely, with a nice balance of light reflected.
Nice shot Dave
Thanks for the lift in your photomobile. Thanks for playing dare with the tide.
