In many ways I guess this is a companion to yesterday's entry, but this one is a shot of the side of the structure rather than one of the ends. And I guess I prefer this one. It's not quite so dramatic, but to me it's a more balanced shot.
Oh, and this is the 500th entry that has gone up on chromasia :-)
capture date camera lens focal length aperture shutter speed shooting mode exposure bias metering mode ISO flash image quality RAW converter cropped?
This could be a scene from a sci fi movie or lord of the rings. I am surprised this has turned out so well in colour but it has. In fact I think I prefer this to yesterdays but that is because the composition comes in from the left which is more natural to the eye.
hey dave, great shot...i especially love the colors on this....looks like channel mixer work...is that right?

Wow! This shot and yesterday's are both amazing! Wonderful angles and lighting. I like today's better because of the color, though the monochrome works as well.
I get a little depressed by your photo's. Every-one of them is so good that I really ask myself what am I doing and start thinking that I better can quit.......no way I'm gonna make photo's like this.
Hów do you do it? Incredible!!!!!!!

Yeah, they're both great shots. I was looking through your thumbnails this morning and noticed that today was going to be number 500. I was wondering if you would notice, looks like you have :)

This is dramatic, in that the sky very much frames the aged wood. I love the texture and the great colour contrasts. Old rusty relics also provide great colours. I also feel that the lines constantly draw you in, through and around the image. The diagonlas of the right piece of wood and sky and the verticals of the other piece of wood and old iron...
Moved me to comment.
A question, how much per month would you expect to pay for web hosting? For say 250mb of space...
Irene: I don't know if this will answer your question but the shots that work best for me are the ones where I know what they'll look like when I've processed them, where I take something knowing that I'm going to change it in a particular way. Other shots work too, or don't, it depends, but the ones where I can see the result as I take them are always more satisfying.
mark: this is the result of a combination of reasonably subtle changes in Photoshop including Levels, Curves, Channel mixer, and Selective Color. The Channel mixer was used to add a slight boost to the saturation and I increased the black and yellow in the blue and cyan using a Selective Color adjustment layer.
congrats on the 500th. you really do have some great stuff here. looking forward to the next 500!

Previsualisation is something that all should aspire to and I guess it comes with the experience you build up processing 500++ images - plus a fair degree of talent and visual awareness of course :-). Congrats on the half-millennial post!
Of the last two images, I prefer today's, but I have to say that whilst technically well-executed and compositionally interesting, they leave me with the feeling that the pre-vision only took into account the formal perfection of the image. Which is fair enough as I do it a lot myself, but the pictures where there is in addition a strong emotive presence (and you have plenty of those) always stand out.

There's so much texture in this shot and the last... i do like this one better than the other... in this case, colour works much better... it looks as though the stump is rusting along with that metal object.

fraxinus: I agree, this series isn't a particularly emotive one.
PhilB: yes, I've thought about creating a specific gallery for these shots.
I believe this is my fav of the bunch. Just an amazing perpective.
I prefer the previous day to this one. The B&W speaks to me a little more.
Great foto. I love your work. Keep on it!
