This is the last shot in this series and while the previous five were taken on the 29th April with John, this one was taken the following night with Paul (not long before this shot). And it should be obvious from the time it was taken, but this isn't a sunset.

Oh, and in recognition of the fact that this is undoubtedly one of my favourite structures, I've set up a new category, which can be viewed as either a category (which includes the text of the entry) or a gallery (which is just the medium sized thumbnails).

And finally, and I don't know why I'm asking this as I'm not sure I can answer it, which one is your favourite of the six? For me, I think it might be number 5, closely followed/equalled by numbers three and one, but I'll probably change my mind again at some point ;-)

My favorite is tide down #3, from the first expedition.

comment by luke at 08:07 PM (GMT) on 8 May, 2005

the colours and texture of the sky esp in this shot are stunning, the best shot of the series easily. Is all the light on the right from noise pollution?

comment by djn1 at 08:15 PM (GMT) on 8 May, 2005

Frank: you're not the first person to like that one. Personally I find it a bit too 'literal' but do like it.

luke: synesthesia aside, yes. And thanks :-)

comment by Eric at 08:24 PM (GMT) on 8 May, 2005

Nicely done, I think the fifth one is my fav of the bunch.

Wow, looks just like a painting! Amazing colors and great silhouette. Wow. This doesn't have as much in it as the others, but due to the great composition, awesome colors and sky, I would have to say this is my favorite.

Wonderful shot!

comment by Daniel at 08:58 PM (GMT) on 8 May, 2005

WOW, seriously WOW

i have loads to learn..

comment by John at 09:14 PM (GMT) on 8 May, 2005

This one is my favourite Dave. Mainly because the sky is different and on reflection I think it just suits the picture more in that it provides a nice background for the structure.

Nice colors.

comment by ps at 09:48 PM (GMT) on 8 May, 2005

wow, i'ts great, but clouds looks little not real, am i right?

comment by Beth at 09:52 PM (GMT) on 8 May, 2005

My favourite WAS number three, but the colours in this one knocked me out!

comment by Andy at 10:18 PM (GMT) on 8 May, 2005

I really like 3, 5 and 6. 5 was my favorite but now 6 is. :) The colors are amazing on this one. I like how it goes from a blue and gradients to an orange'ish color. I suspect that the orange glow is coming from the city. Great shot!

comment by John at 10:28 PM (GMT) on 8 May, 2005

The centre structure is 0.015 mm out and the horizon is .00643 mm out as well. Otherwise it is perfect.

Ha Ha ........... sorry the stella has just kicked in.

So how come you took the better picture when I was not around, was Paul from skinnybuzzard tutoring you ?

Fantastic photo! Love the way you've captured the colours ranging from one side of the image to the other :)

This is absolutely my favorite of the six. It draws me in with its mysterious atmosphere and color. Lovely!

comment by Fellow Eskimo at 12:55 AM (GMT) on 9 May, 2005

I love the colours, its so vibrant. I think this one is my favorite..I guess I just really like the long exposures...though I really liked yesterdays too! I know this is probably something I can find online...but how do you calculate how long to keep the shutter open?

comment by kate at 01:53 AM (GMT) on 9 May, 2005

6 5 2 ;)

comment by Thinh at 02:04 AM (GMT) on 9 May, 2005

Look at all the pretty colours! It's almost the perfect colour wheel. This is hands down my favourite of the bunch. The silhouette of the pier is just striking. Suuuuwwwweeet!

comment by Brian at 02:19 AM (GMT) on 9 May, 2005

This is just unbelievably beautiful.

comment by david at 03:09 AM (GMT) on 9 May, 2005

I'm going to say number one, with this one a close second (obviously they make great companion shots). Beautiful colors, and great silhouettes - the long exposure makes a great sweepy sky. The ground and the posts on the left are a little dark, but I don't suppose you could use an ND grad on this subject. Maybe painting with a torch could have lightened them a hair?
Great series!

comment by Abe at 04:03 AM (GMT) on 9 May, 2005

The sun in the back right is lovely. The shadows and colors in the foreground and clouds are wonderful.

Very nice composition.

comment by Steve at 04:24 AM (GMT) on 9 May, 2005

My favorite of the previous six is Pier's End #3. My favorite of the
catagory is Tide Down #3. You need more depth of field in Pier's
End #2.

comment by jcyrhs at 06:12 AM (GMT) on 9 May, 2005

The shots are different... but colour wise, this has to be the one. You made me so envious of your shots... did you do something to the clouds? cause they looked like water painting to me... beautiful beautiful.

If you start a photography online tutorial, be sure to make your bandwidth really huge because i can see myself signing up along with many others. =)

comment by Jordan at 06:23 AM (GMT) on 9 May, 2005

The colors in this are just spectacular. I love how it covers the sun's full low-horizon spectrum without being over saturated. This is fabulous work!

comment by myla at 06:32 AM (GMT) on 9 May, 2005

Hard call, but I'd have to say that I like this one best -- the sky is amazing. Did you by chance capture the sky without anything in the foreground?

comment by sandro at 09:54 AM (GMT) on 9 May, 2005

Great sunset atmospere... the very balanced point of view is the most interesting things in this picture

comment by RainKing at 11:28 AM (GMT) on 9 May, 2005

Love the colors here. Such a peaceful view.

comment by Geoff at 12:37 PM (GMT) on 9 May, 2005

Absolutely stunning.
My favourite shot for a few weeks. Just awesome. Dave, sometimes it really shits me just how good your photography is, but Imostly manage to cast aside jealousy and am left with peaceful respect...

comment by mark at 04:44 PM (GMT) on 9 May, 2005

I have to say #5 for me.....This one is a very close second. All 6 were awesome and i have really enjoyed the series.

comment by Marina at 05:12 PM (GMT) on 9 May, 2005

It is good to see that every Blogger has a favorite subject ;)
For me no. 6 is the best of them - the colours are awesome and I really like the perspective -> great shot!

comment by Ray at 05:38 PM (GMT) on 9 May, 2005

Great shot. Those colours in the sky are to die for. My fave from the series is #2 followed by this one. Great work!

comment by getpixed at 06:23 PM (GMT) on 9 May, 2005

great shot.... wonderfull, very nice composition

comment by VPra at 07:22 PM (GMT) on 9 May, 2005

I find this picture to be much too dark. The left corner of the picture bothers me too much because of how dark it is. I would've made it brighter

comment by juan at 07:33 PM (GMT) on 9 May, 2005

i love the picture,
the structures it's like an representation of love;on the structure i can see that the two guys finally find together, one is the gameboy's girl at the sea and the other the boy behind the wall=-).
¿is it this structure a representatiof of these love?
because i'm feeling.

comment by Elvi at 10:41 PM (GMT) on 9 May, 2005

Well, what can I say. Very good shot, good composition and colours. Fantastic shot.
