I did intend this one to be in colour, for reasons that would be obvious if you'd been there – deep pink against blue – but the lighting just didn't quite work out. What I could have done is drop the exposure and use some fill-flash, but I didn't think of it at the time and didn't have my flash with me.

Anyway, this was the only half-decent shot I had left before I went camping, and I do think it goes someway towards what I was after, so I'll put it up and shoot a colour version at some point in the future.

David, this is an incredibly exciting shot. The depth of the "black" in the sky is so suggestive of deep blues, I really don't think I want to see it in color, I much prefer the experience of having it suggested.

How come the sky is always so interesting near Blackpool!?!?

I like the dynamicism (is that a word? {probably spelled wrongly}) of this shot. And the sky is excellent esp in mono.

Well done!

Amazing sky and really nice boots.

It's nice how you can't really tell where the ground begins. Just, way up in the clouds.

Well, I rellay dont see anything wrong in this one. I love the deep colors in the see, and all the elements fits well in the composition. I love how you always manage to get good pictures using your children's movements and experiences. As I see it you camping was really productive. (photographically talking)

While I've enjoyed your color sense a great deal, I also particularly like this image and I think it's very effective as a black and white photograph. This composition is just perfect. I've been sitting here studying the image for a while and it's one of the ones I think I wish I had a framed print of to look at and be inspired by every day.

looks like the child is walking among the clouds...

great b&ws, great detail... you are my hero

Hi Dave

It is a great photo for sure but I think that the problem is that there is not enough contrast between the subject and the background. So I bet that if you replaced the sky with a more even sky it would have been what you were after.

It would be nice if you get chance to take this again on a day with a flatter sky.

The composition is spot on and you have captured a nice moment of balance. On the whole it is still a very good picture.

lovely..
hehe, sometimes i just feel it's so unfair some people have much lovelier environments ... i.e. stunning skies ...

Love it!

Dave
Again you somehow manage to get that "JUST SO" shot, that could send us all to the point where we give up trying. Inspiring sky, choice of subject, opportunity to get the photo, the timing in the shot, the composition, its as if, just where you are, the best pictures happen.... and day after day you turn out quality like this.... its really not fair on the rest of us.....

Anyway it wont stop me being a fan, and inspired by your work, keep it going.... craig at www.id7.co.uk ..... hey dont forget that shout out you promised a while back.

Regards
Craig

Very dramatic sky. Did you shoot this with a polariser? I know if it were me, I would've overexposed the sky and underexposed the foreground, do share your little secret.

Every single thing about this photo is incredible. Exciting is definitely the word. The wood, the sky, the movement, the boots, the story - all perfect and electric. Thanks again for breathtaking beauty.

Is it just me, or does it look like she's going backwords?

comment by jcyrhs at 08:47 AM (GMT) on 29 May, 2005

i think the sky and clouds formation are rather dynamic. Breathtaking!

Having said what I said earlier - this photo looks a lot better on my CRT monitor. There is much more seperation between subject and background.

The boots make this picture, along with the subject's (child's?) anonymity. Really, really, really nice. I can't imagine liking this more in color.

I like it, really sharp and strong tones. great composition/subject too.

Awesome. I know you were looking for the pink and blue, but desaturating turns this into an intriguing image rather than just a cute picture by the sea. I love the pose of her arm with that big Elvis looking sleeve, and that the face is hidden. Really interesting shot!

GREAT. Well thought out shot. Love the B&W, POV, and the split second timing of this capture. A very complete feel to it. Regards from Vienna, -T

Wow. I think this photo works on many levels (I especially like the boots :=) I think the position of the person makes it seems as though they are a part of the sky, and the parrallel lines of the wood makes for a great sense of motion. Great capture!

This is amazing!

This is absolutely a wonderful picture.. the sky looks so powerful, massive.

Gotta love them boots too.
