I spent a good proportion of today feeling sorry for myself: for having stopped smoking (and feeling miserable about it), for still having a stinking cold and a cough, for having loads to do at work, for (still) having a kitchen to fit at home, and so on, and so on – so in an attempt to clear my head I went for a walk on Fleetwood beach with one of our daughters to take some shots.
As we walked back towards the car we noticed these police officers walking up the beach, carrying what we can only assume was a body. And I may be wrong, but I suspect they'd found the teenage boy who was swept out to sea last Sunday. According to the BBC he and his 16 year old friend jumped into the water near the pier where we live to rescue a dog. The body of the 16 year old was recovered the same day, but the the other boy hasn't been found ... at least not yet.
So, in the scale of things, whining about stopping smoking, having too much work to do, and so on, seems pretty trivial in comparison.

I whine about things too but when compared to someone's else or something big, mine are so trivial. Great shot here. I like the brown in this pic. Is this just the natural sand colour or mud? Those boys are heroes. But just so sad.
What a sad story....keep at it with the quitting smoking. I quit about a year ago and it really gets easier after the first few weeks. Once you get past that you will be happy you put forth the effort. Good luck!!!
This picture certainly tells a sad story. The overcast day adds to the mood and makes it that much sadder. Is that a beached ship in the center of the picture? Sort of odd...

Thanks God we have this opportunities to reflex about what we have, As you said in the scale of thing, having a beautiful family, a house to fix and the good proposition of quiting that habit seems not that bad to me. Plus you have a lot of people behind supporting a little piece of your work that's call chromasia. Cheers from Mexico.

Sad story indeed. Keep at it with the not smoking. I gave up 6 years ago after way too many years of B&H. After a month, it was much easier. Good luck!

I just love industrial shots. I imagine a cold wind roaring in ear with perhaps the sound of a large truck beeping as it back up somewhere far off in the distance. Familiar.
wow, nothing like a walk on the beach to put things in perspective.

When first seeing your shot, I thought, "nice transitions between divergent subjects and textures, nice weave effects in the water induced by the zones of shallow and deep." Then I thought it was a bit lopsided with almost all of the interest on the left.
That was before reading your comments. Now all I can see are the officers and concern for their situation and the possible grief of families and friends if your suspicions are true.
It's funny that a picture can have the impact of a thousand words, but that a few words can paint a wholly different picture.

I wish I hadn't read what you had written. It's a great shot I just assumed the boys in yellow were going to investigate what looks like a beached boat ! lovely colours. P.S. I am about to give up wish me luck :)

Congratulations on dropping a bad habit. Good luck in your effort and eventual success!
Thanks everyone. As for what was going on: it hasn't been confirmed, at least not on any news bulletins I've seen, but it does seem as though this was the boy who was drowned last weekend.
Juice: no, I think it's a dredger.
Vitor: yes :-)

i wasn't too impressed with this shot are first glance, but the context of this photo (ie. in comparison to your issues), this photo meant more to me. events like these always make you sit back and question yourself.

Great picture. The police look like they're struggling in the mud a bit. You could syndicate this picture!
