We took the kids down to the beach this afternoon and this is one of three shots that I'll put up over the next couple of days. Tomorrow's is of the same daughter as she leapt from the top of a sand dune, hence the title of this one.
Oh, and I still haven't had a cigarette :-)

Love the sepia on this one! The depth of the focus really empasizes the girl... The look on her face is very interesting. What might she be thinking of?
Another one in the line of great images from you, david j. nightingale:)
My regards

Hey David,
There is something with your b/w shots lately, and I don't know if it's my screen or the shots themselves. They look on my screen to be a bit overexposed. This is the best description I can find for the phenomenon.
The black does not seem pitch black, and the whole shots have an uncomfortable brightness. I am wondering whether this is on purpose, or whether it is just my screen. I have quite a good monitor and it is correctly aligned and set up - i looked at the photo friday tool to make sure. The colour shots look fine though.
Dave, congrats on quitting, that is a most remarkable achievement -- and such a wonderful gift to give L and the girls. As always, this is gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous work. She is sure growing up fast!
Fabio: chromasia has a fairly standard layout and runs on MT.
Ioannis: this is a reasonably high-key shot exposed for her face and hair, but it isn't blown out, so it may be that i) you have the brightness set a bit high on your monitor, or ii) that you simply prefer shots that are darker.
myla: thanks, it's four days and counting :-)
jane: I think she was just having a few moments to herself. Normally things are pretty full-on with our (four) kids - which is great - but I think they need a moment every now and then to gather their wits between being immersed with each other.

I like the overall feel of the shot, but it's a tiny bit too bright for me but that's just IMHO... She is very cute and I like her facial expression... Good for you for giving up smoking BTW, don't look for an alternative like chocolate :-) (at the end of the day, you'll have tons of sugar in you but still crave that cigarette...)

A really nice portrait Dave. The DOF is just right as the background is still distinguishable yet does not interfere with the subject.
Nice portrait.
Nice tones and depth of field. Great shot.

Love the toning in this shot and the main subject really stands out...

Beautiful portrait - she looks enthralled by something.
And well done on the giving up smoking! As I know from personal experience, it's no easy task so you're doing a grand job.
Thanks everyone.
