This one isn't anywhere near as dynamic as yesterday's effort, but I really like the depth of this one – to me it looks like three distinct layers rather than a 2D image. Let me know what you think.

They look happy, I think that's the best thing about this pic

The only thing this shot lacks is a sign in the background with an arrow coincidentally pointing at those smiles (and, of course, that would be too crass for consideration.) You're right about the depth of three layers. The out-of-focus grasses and v-shape on the first layer help focus the eye to the real joy of this picture: the happy faces.

This reminds me of the old 'peepshow' toys, where you look through a small aperture in a box and see different two-dimensional scenes at different distances - a kind of diorama in a box. You've achieved a really interesting rendering of the different planes of focus, don't think I've seen it as distinct before. I guess this is down to 'bokeh' - a term I admit to never having heard of until I started reading your blog!
Apart from that, it's also a wonderful double portrait of your daughters.
I agree with you Dave. The depth is really great in this shot. I also really like the greyscale rather than color. Nice work.

fantastic composition and framing. i'd like to see some more rich, black tones as there are a *ton* of middle-greys, but this is great anyway.

I'd have to agree with Michael a little there. Besides that, great capture. Keep it up.

Thats what a long lens does! I think I would like this one better in color though...again, you would have three distinct styles (unless the shirts were hot pink or something). Good expressions :)

It does have amazing depth to it, and they both look so happy. My sister has a T-Shirt with that monkey on too :-)

Great pic dave - love both grasses and people - works well as B&W.
BTW Don't know if your site could open pictures in separate window when you click on a thumbnail - otherwise computer takes time to reload the thmbnails if you go back! Prbably better if you have broadband, which i don't (yet) ;-)

Great work,I really love the depth, and I agree that the layered effect is nice....I think the BW brings out the depth even more, was wonderign if the original colored picture would show depth as much as this BW ??
Beautiful focus, the compostion really arrows in on the subject.

Yes, a very happy photo. Wonderful job of not overcontrasting; I'm usually one to suggest more contrast, but the contrast is just right in this shot. Nice job!
dave, this is gorgeous. your kids will so much appreciate you having saved memorable moments such as this and many others. i'd die for a shot like this from me at the same age as the little one.

Very nicely done; a real treasure.
Great clarity!
I really like this one, there is just such a happy feeling to it... Makes me smile...
yep, depth and layers, its like your eye takes three steps to grasp the whole image and concentrate on the main subjects.....happy smiles.
It's almost dizzying! I love it.
