When we were young I distinctly remember that one of the games we used to play involved spinning around, preferably on the lawn, until we fell over from dizziness. We'd spin for ages, eventually collapsing in a laughing heap. And then we'd do it all over again.

How things change.

I got on the roundabout with our two youngest this afternoon, which was spinning relatively slowly, and only stayed there for a couple of minutes, but ended up feeling ill for about an hour afterwards. Was it worth it for this shot? Just about, but I won't be doing it again any time soon ;-)

Very nice....I think everyone knows the feeling of spinning around until you get sick. This photo captures it all.... The happyness at the time you're doing it and the movement around you. perfect picture, much better than the one you posted yesterday. I hope you're not dizzy anymore. Greetings from Holland, Marcel

Wow - Love this one it's got that surreal feel to it especially in Harmonys face. Again the expression completes the picture.

Wow Dave. Just beautiful. Being a kid was so much fun!

comment by nogger at 11:38 PM (GMT) on 17 June, 2005

pfft! You're just getting old. :-) Unlike the kids who seem to having a whale of a time.

I'm just not sure about that top left hand side though. In fact, and I know you don't like cropping, if you chop off left hand daughter I think it's a stronger shot.

seem to be having, I meant.

This is a really good shot of the children. It brings out the meaning of childhood.

comment by Parker at 02:05 AM (GMT) on 18 June, 2005

That's amazing! I am not much of a photographer, but I'd imagine that you can't get a shot like that without a good deal of luck... It seems like it must have been fairly hectic and difficult, but it's perfectly framed and focused. You're a consisently good photographer. Very impressive.

comment by Richard at 02:21 AM (GMT) on 18 June, 2005

Great motion and expressions! No doubt looking through the view finder while spinning enhanced your motion sickness!

I guess that you have a plus here. Looking at your beauties you can remebre yout childhood and be happy for them at the same time since they seems to have fun days a lot. ;)

comment by Juice at 08:10 AM (GMT) on 18 June, 2005

It was probably worth it for the contrast, but your right hand girl just looks a little too monsterish without any eyes. Do you think there would've been any way to bring out that shadow detail without compromising the contrast of the shot? It's okay at a first glance, but the eyes are such an important part of her expression. Ya know?

I suppose all photographs of children 'freeze' their childhood, one moment in time, for forever, but this really personifies that concept, doesn't it? They're both growing up so fast. It seems like just yesterday you were posting the shots of Libby after delivery. . . how fast they grow. Fabulous as always.

comment by myla at 11:19 AM (GMT) on 18 June, 2005

PS -- the girls look LOVELY, not monstrous at all.

The faces make the shot.

Nice depiction if kiddie-hood when everything is fun fun fun, and the world flashes past you in a confusing haze.

comment by Josh at 04:35 PM (GMT) on 18 June, 2005

Cool shot, David. Is this a Photoshop/real hybrib image? The left hand side of your left girl looks masked? But then her left arm looks natural in keeping with the motion blur... huh.

Hope your feeling well : )

a really fun shot ... what a sweet impish grin on the little one! The movement in the photo is so visually engaging ... and brings back many memories of spinning my days away on those wonderful park merry go rounds ... I loved them and could never get it to spin fast enough! sorry it made you sick ...

Nice shot man!

Thanks everyone, and in response to various of the comments: I think that this shot would probably have benefitted from some fill-flash, especially in terms of bringing out the facial details of our youngest, but I don't often take my flash out with me. I'll probably use it more over the summer as it's a great help with evening out the harsh summer sunlight.

what an amazing shot!
i love this one...so beautiful, so fresh, so...natural! :-)

Fun, but not the most flattering

comment by Jana at 09:35 PM (GMT) on 19 June, 2005

Personally, I don't care what anyone else says about your daughter's expression. Children make the most wonderful and endearing faces when they are young. And for you to be able to catch these "memories" forever is something she will love you for when she is older. My son is 26 now and still loves to look at the pictures of himself as a child. I think this image is priceless!

comment by pfong at 03:10 AM (GMT) on 20 June, 2005

Great motion blur and lovely children.

It may just be the lack of brightness on my monitor, but the eyes of the child on the right are completely black on my screen.

~xlnt shot, constructively a wee bit dark in the eyes, but the sense of motion and joy is xlnt~
