Ok, so yesterday's was supposed to be the last in the series but I couldn't resist including this one. This image, obviously, started out as two shots that were intended for the family album – both fun, but neither seemed worth putting up on its own. Anway, I was working on both of them and realised that the skylines matched quite well so I thought I'd have a got at puttting them together.
I haven't posted the EXIF data but basically they were shot at f/8.0 with a shutter speed of around 1/300. Diffused fill-flash was used for both shots.
As for post-processing: both were treated in the usual way – Curves, Selective Color, Hue/Saturation, and so on – but I did alter the colour balance slightly as the originals seemed rather cold.

Would you mind telling us what types of things you use selective color on? In this shot, did you just do the sky, water, and sand or do you do little things like her bathing suit and skin as well?
I'm curious as well, I love learning how you create these beautiful photos!

Yes, I agree the saturation is very nice! Very pretty photos, your daughter seem so happy and active! I like how the buildings are on the right in the second shot.

I liek this concept but i think it might have been more interesting if you had simply stitched the photos together to make one seamless images. Unless they are that way and are simply not rendering properly in Safari. The merge would have been easy and IMO made a better image. Nevertheless the colors are vibrant and I love the carefree moment you've captured. Much nicer than yesterday's image.
I was curious about how you diffused your fill flash? Is it just a simple cap on the flash like a Stofen or you have some screen in front of your flash?
Jeremy: I used Selective Color to darken the sky and shift the tint for the red and yellow.
picturegrl: I don't think this would have stitched all that well given the differences in the water in both shots.
Jarod: a Stofen.
ps: no, there are quite a few square cropped shots earlier on, a few semi-panoramic shots, and some in portrait format. I do tend to post mostly landscape format stuff though.

How cute is this (are these) picture(s), seriously?
I'm a fan.

rachel: yep, she's cute, and I guess that's why I put these up. They're not the best photographs in the world (and, IMO, nowhere near as good as the last three) but I did think they were fun. Also, I'm conscious of the fact that chromasia is a visual diary that my kids will look back through at some point in the future, so it's nice to put these sort of shots up occasionally.
I've spent the last bit of time looking through your archives and your work is consistently very strong. I know you've heard it many times before but - great work. Your page will definitely be one of my daily stops from now on.

Awesome color. Would have finished stitching them together personally though.
I think that these, unless they were stitched together (though impossible because of water) would look better in seperate frames. I know that MT is tricky to work with, and that it might be quite hard to do that, but I think it'd be a bit cleaner.
The sort of ripple that is produced inbetween the two shots is sort of interesting though.
And regardless of the crop, the colors, and the subject, are really nice.

Yesterday's was desaturated, this one feels a bit oversaturated.. Still the first one in the series works best in my books. Though yes, this would definitely be good enough for a family album.

Bit late to be leaving a comment on these photos, I know.
Actually, these are my favourites out of the series and I think that the left-hand side especially would have stood on its own. Of course the previous shots are all fantastic but the colours in these create an entirely different mood. The previous shot in particular made me feel a bit miserable, truth be told. Poor girl sitting there with wet hair in wet sand and it all looks so cold- it reminded me of childhood summers in the UK where you're on the beach, it's 17 degrees, it's cloudy and about to rain but, hey, you're on the beach and you MUST HAVE FUN at any cost. Shiver.

what a shame it's not exactly 50 / 50...
Lovely colours again, you manage to coax them out so well without overdoing it. I think the shot on the left is great. A really fun set to finish on.
ps: I've changed the crop to 50/50.

This is a very interesting photo.
Love it. Summer fun.
These colours are to die for! Superb energy too.
I love these, and I love how bright you've made them in post work. My little sister used to have a rainbow bathing suit rather like this one. :)
:-) This is good.
