This is the first of four shots taken at the same time as looking down from the hill when I was out with John and Ioannis last week. None of them, in my opinion, are entirely spectacular, but I'm mostly pleased with how they turned out.
On another matter: I've added some javascript to prettify the hover text that appears with the various links on the site and have tested it reasonably thoroughly but do let me know if you experience any problems with it.
And finally: I'm now massively behind with answering emails but do hope to catch up at some point. So if you have emailed me, I will respond as soon as I possibly can.

Oh that's beautiful David! I often look for a point of focus with my sunset photos - like a silhouette or something, but in this case the practically empty horizon focus's you on the unusual foreground! Great colours and great work as always :)

Your 'prettified' onmousover magic isn't cross browser compatible. I've only gotten it to work under Internet Explorer. Firefox doesn't show it.
Yay. More beach shots.. Starting to get sea sick :)

Very good colours on this one. I think the clear sky was perfect for night shots like this and you captured the colour and the view of the beach really well.

Another wonderfully saturated picture! I love the way the foreground almost becomes black with the reflected sky, and the way the land on the horizon widens at the edges—it all leads beautifully to the centre of the horizon.
David, I have to tell you that I have only been "hooked on your blog for a short time, but it seems to me that you are connecting with people, everyday people, in a very spontaneous way. For me, you have become the exclamation point at the end of a perfectly crazy day. This photo, as well as many others that you present , makes me happy to be alive and remember that I am a participant in this crazy world that many times can not possibly meet my expectations. Your photos make me a better person. Two thumbs up seems almost trite, but two thumbs up anyway. Regards, Mary

Colours.. their beauty and spectrum, ..the dynamics of their balance. There is no excess of yellow, orange, or blue, neither are they lacking. Why is it beautiful? It seems to hold a promise, whispering it like if it were the cold breeze that rushes through. The endurance of beauty and the ability to comprehend it or appreciate it. That it may last and see another tomorrow.

The usual "wow" for the colour gradient in the horizon, i'm pretty amazed at your cardboard beach. The seabed sure looks like soaking wet cardboard... the lighting focus is excellent too... still my main source of inspiration. tks dave...
I use firefox and the mouseover thing works just fine.
David, I love this shot. I love how it goes from a dark rich blue to a brownish orange back to a blue.

dave, may i recommend fading the prettified hover box a bit into the background? check out css's "opacity" property.

dave: and now that you're into fixing up the design, set your monitor resolution to more than 1024 x 768 and, in IE, change the stylesheet to one of the darker colors. the bottom of the page stays white while the rest changes to the new color scheme. good luck fixing it! :-p

Wow! Love the vertical color contrast and horizontal lumination contrast. The water reminds me of some oil spill over ocean!
I use Firefox and the "tooltip"(?) works fine. But I kinda felt distracting when it appears over the photo. We need not be reminded all time that clicking will lead to previous image ;)
Beautiful shot, as usual! You get the greatest sunsets out there. I especially love the cross-hatched appearance of the beach. Just fantastic!
I don't think your hover changes are working on Safari, at least not while I'm doing this comment field...
wonderful work.

Great colours, i love the texture in the foreground too, if thats anything like the beach near me i bet you sank a couple of inches while taking this photo :-)
Great shot Dave - for all the viewers here I can vouch that this scene accurately reflects just how this beach was (alright a bit less saturated but still not far off)
Personally speaking I love empty minimilistic shots so this one does it for me.

Beautiful horizon and beautiful photo as always.
The hover text works well for me and it looks great, but there's a new problem I haven't noticed before on your site. When I click on a picture, then click back, it takes me to the top of the page, instead of where I was on the page. I'm on Firefox 1.0.4.

You take such wonderful nighttime shots. Always! This is so beautiful...the colors, the texture, the foreground...all so beautiful. Im going on a short vacation, but Im looking foward to seeing them all when I get back!
it's amazing to see you outdo yourself over and over again. everytime i tell myself that this is the best picture so far, you surprise me again the next day. good job! keep it going.
Mark: I think the orange dot on the horizon must be a light as it was just after ten to eleven.
deerparkwater: as best I can tell that an IE bug rather than anything to do with my code. I guess there probably is a work around, but I don't know what it is.
SteveO: from what I can remember we were on reasonably solid ground when we took this one.
End_User-X: can you explain the problem in a bit more detail?
Neil: I was born near the sea then lived away for quite a long time. It's good to be back.

miklos: thanks, even if it was only a temporary glitch. And, comment-whore that I am, I'll let them be ;-)
Very nicely done. I enthralled by those blues and the gradients.
This photo it's amazing. I loved the colors, and the texture of the foreground.
congrats!!!

another, great photo...
miklos: "Firefox doesn’t show it." ??? really? for me everything is ok.
I think this is quite stunning. It seems as if taken from a very high altitude and the colors are so striking. Just beautiful!
Wow!! This is absolutely gorgeous.
That's pretty impressive. I can't say anymore than what's been said. Perfect foreground focus and wonderful colours.
(There's an orange dot on the horizon, just left of centre, is that the sun?)
ps: Scroll up a bit and read it again, then read on a little further.
miklos: ehh, no comment...
Ahhhh! I've been blown away with the shots taken in the past week or so ... not to mention every other shot on this blog. So great.
Awesome shot. So peaceful, so..everything.

very serene feeling to the picture. i like it.
I wish I lived near the sea!! An ever changing landscape that exites the eye (and your shutter finger) Truly amazing picture (again)
