This is the last of the shots that will be posted while I'm away so fingers crossed that a) I've managed to shoot something worth putting up while I was away, and b) that I'm back in time to post it on Tuesday.
As for this shot: the lighting, specifically the colour drift from foreground to background, is the result of using fill-flash. As with the previous three shots this was taken on Crosby beach.

I like the gradation from the sand in the foreground to the ocean throughout the rest of the shot. Talk about wide-angle, eh? Maybe next time you can convince someone to go out there on a sailboat for a bit of added interest - or hire some dolphins to jump through the air ;P

This shot is brilliant. One of the problems with landscape photography is making sure the sky doesn't appear detached from the ground. This works beautifully and the shot has a lovely textural feel.
Wow, what a nice effect the flash created -- who would have thought? It added that bit of color that makes this image work. It sure could have been bland without the sand color showing through. Overall, there's vastness, there's simplicity, and just enough color. A study in texture.
a very simplistic image with hidden depths! the ripples in the foreground remind me of the scales of a reptile! I would never have even thought of using fill in flash for a landscape like this.
Once again you've got me thinking!!

You seem to have missed the Image Quality definition in your exif info which is throwing things out of alignment a bit.
I like this photo in terms of the ground. The sky feels a bit dark though. Maybe you toned it down too much. Everything else is very nice. But the sky sort of ruins it for me.

Its certainly very pretty, I like the light blue of the water and the sky...so nice. And the sandy color of the foreground. Beautiful :)

Dave,
I didn't want to comment yesterday that I didn't like the series of shots of the sentinel. I ALMOST posted that I thought yesterdays shot would have been more aesthetically pleasing without the sentinel statue in it but I felt it was a negative, unconstructive comment.
However, you have fulfilled my wish with today's photo. The scene is perfect without the statue. Nature needs no addition here. The colour and texture say it all. It is almost as though the viewer were there, you can almost feel the sand between your toes and the lapping of the water round your ankles.
Well done, superb!

A very interesting and amazing shot. Looks more like a watercolor painting to me than a photo. And the colors are great. Don't know... the fact that I was viewing a painting was the first thing to come into my mind when I saw it.
Have a good trip!!!

Not a bad shot, but what drew me to Chromasia was your gorgeous shots of people. Strangers on the street, your family.... I miss shots with people.

Wow, i really like the effect the flash has caused, you have managed to make the water in Crosby look clean!! What a feat that is :-)
Just a thing about your site, i think your tab order could be changed on the comment page, when i press TAB from the URL field, it springs right back to the top of the page again, just a bit confusing thats all.

Eeeeeeeeeexcellent use of a fill flash! Just happened on your site a few days ago and am really liking the way you play with color. Reciprocity is our friend...
I'm currently landlocked in the Midwest but the ocean shots make me feel like I'm back home.

Excellent. Nice use of flash, brings out the foreground colour and texture well, love the combination of colours. Very clever. I'd like to see it without the background elements (ship, lighthouse ?) I think they detract from the flow and feeling of the picture.

wow. what a beautiful shot. It took me away. I grabbed my camera right away to experiment.
It's raining where I am, but I can also see the fields in the distance meet the sky. I appreciate it a bit more because of this photo. Thanks.

Yeah, it's really brilliant shot. You have very clean sea...
I liked very much this photo. The water looks really clear, and the color degradation it very well done.
I like this one a lot too, it looks a lot like a painting.
