I'll add the EXIF data and write something about this one tomorrow (well, it's a bit late going up so what I really mean is that I'll write something later today). Right now though I'm too tired. We drove 270 miles this evening – from Canvey Island to Blackpool – and I'm washed out. Hopefully I'll have a few more shots from the trip to put up but I haven't really had much of a chance to look through them yet. And I may well alter this one slightly as I'm beyond caring what it looks like this evening. Oh, and thanks for all the comments while I was away. I did log on a couple of times but I haven't really had the chance to look through them all yet.

I like the duality of the perfect sky vs. the imperfect concrete. Any idea what the words on the wall are meant to say?

looks like sex pistols in the uk...

great shot - looks almost like shes just a painting on the wall

I like the perspective, the colors and the subject, but... I think that bright green plant makes a little distraction...

comment by Fellow Eskimo at 01:34 AM (GMT) on 13 July, 2005

the girl ads an intresting subject, and I like the vignetting around the edges. Also, intresting how it is angled.

comment by Eric at 01:37 AM (GMT) on 13 July, 2005

...the whole composition. It works. Everything just words out.

The circle-A is for anarchy. So that could be your title, "Anarchy in the U.K.", since there's a bit of anarchy to this image. There's many different elements that have almost nothing to do with eachother -- the green shrub coming out of the brick ground, the wall, the sky, the graphics... and the girl seeming to ignore it all, almost a defiant stance. And you've ignored the rules by putting her right in the center (more anarchy). Very striking.

strange image...but i like the sex pistols.

The angle is eyecatching. My eyes followed the picture right to the center..where the girl stands. Very Nice, I like this. *windy*

Can't believe I'm saying this: there was a Sex Pistols song called 'Anarchy in the UK' released in 1976 to great outrage.

Great picture, it took me a while to work out the perspective and what was what.

Great shoot!
But I am just wondering why there is no shadow of this girl's body on the wall... So it seems that she is just a painting on the wall.

This is quite a bizarre image i think, not really sure what to make of it. At least that means its interesting though. I do like the sky, did you use a polariser to get that effect?

comment by kim at 01:09 PM (GMT) on 13 July, 2005

This is a very unique and interesting image. The perspective is wonderful and the sky is amazing. I'm curious about the girl too... she was just standing there? Very stunning work!

Very awesome.

Very cool looking picture.!!! Isn't that one of your older daughters?

comment by Daniel Pape at 03:32 PM (GMT) on 13 July, 2005

Johhny and Sid would be so proud. I like that your daughter is in this shot. It adds intrest and contrast to the cold wall.

I like the elements, but I think the tilt is too much. A lot of time the off-kilter horizon is used to being motion or interest to an otherwise lacking photo, but you've got a lot of interesting things going on here and I find it distracting. I'd also bring down the concrete in the foreground, but that's just me.

I don't mean to sound overly critical - it really is an interetsing photo. I think it could benefit from a few-degrees rotation back.

comment by Jordan at 04:01 PM (GMT) on 13 July, 2005

Perhaps a touch too tilted, but not bad by any means.

I'd love to see a shot rotated to be flat and cropped, just for comparison.

Wasn't too sure first thing this morning.

grew on me by lunchtime....

But have to admit; you're a clever, innovative bugger who always makes me think.

Really, really liked yesterday's photo by the way.

Thanks

What's happening on the top-right of the picture? That's not a cloud, is it? It's like smoke... Explain yourself, sir.

comment by Jesse at 06:58 PM (GMT) on 13 July, 2005

oh no shes gonna start tumbling down!

comment by marcello at 07:11 PM (GMT) on 13 July, 2005

there is always lot to learn in your pic, i love the vignetting and the quality is great. but i agree that the green plant distracts a bit

comment by m at 08:43 PM (GMT) on 13 July, 2005

How about this for a title:
"Live Under Blackpool Lights"
It's not original, it's a Punk album title - well most of one.
White Stripes - Jolene (Live Under Blackpool Lights)
I'm suprised so many people didn't know Anarchy in the UK by the sex pistols. Is every very very young or just all foreign?
Nice pic btw

comment by miklos at 09:46 PM (GMT) on 13 July, 2005

Overdone on the vignetting I think. It's pretty ugly. The rest of it is nice though. I'd love to learn your processing method on the bricks in the foreground. Email me please :) if you have time.

Thanks everyone. As for the plant: it's one of my favourite 'bits' of the shot ;-) And I did take some non-rotated shots but didn't think they worked as well as this one.

LunaSol: yes, it's our daughter.

Chris: yes, it's a cloud.

The tilt doesn't sit right with me for some reason. Not sure how to make it better, just doesn't mesh...
