Beautiful sky and clever composition. Your recent shots have inspired me to splash out on the Canon 580 EX (In other words - you've made me skint ;oD)

Since we're talking inspiration, I have picked up a lot of tips from your shots, David, and the latest has been: don't be afraid of using flash. I love the black-blues in the last couple of shots - a new colour I've not seen often here and so rich! No doubt the very evident use of flash here will bother some but I like it. It feels like she's radiating the light, not that it's coming from your camera. Out of interest, who instigates shots like this? Your daughter or you?
Owen B: up until recently I've avoided using flash, but I think that if you can balance it with the ambient light you can get some good effects. As for who instigates the shots: almost always my daughters. Sometimes I might ask them to look at me as they're doing whatever it is they're doing, and very rarely I might ask them to repeat something they've just done, but most of the time they're not acting for the camera. I guess that they're used to me pointing a camera at them and just ignore me most of the time ;-)

Is the lighting generated just by your 580? Both the ground and your daughter are well lit.

very playful. Almost as though she serves as the sunset.
Everyday it seems like I have a new favorite Chromasia shot. Fantastic--thanks so much for the time and effort you put into this blog.

she's climbing on an abstract rainbow, the sky is hers!
i love the perfect ratio between artificial and natural light.
i love how creatively you're picturing your daughter,
she's such a nice girl.

I prefer this shot to the previous. The one of yesterday looked too much elaborated (but cool). This one is really really wonderful!

I love this! Even though there is so much blue/black, I still feel a lot of warmth. Must be the flash effect and the glow...nice job!
David, I really admire your mastery of the flash outdoors. I think as a photographer that is one of the hardest things to get right. Nice work as always!

This strikes me as possibly, though likely unintentionally, symbolic of a girl becoming a young woman, still holding on to her childhood for a few more moments. Striking photo!
Not as dramatic as yesterday's shot, but I like this one too.
