I'm a bit late putting up tonight's entry as I've been processing a set of images that need to be finished by tomorrow, of which this is one – a shot of the Big Wheel on Blackpool's Central pier.
Update: I decided to enter this shot for this week's Photo Friday challenge – Complexity.

how did you achieve such a sky? amazing!
comment bydjn1 at 11:27 PM (GMT) on 4 August, 2005
Thanks Jem.
christine: I used a polarizer and then deepened it a bit more using Selective Color. All you need to do is add a Selective Color adjustment layer then drag the black sliders for Blue and Cyan to the right.
That's the kind of tips most of us are looking for, Dave... me included. Right down to the specifics (your reply to Christine). I think its time I moved on to Photoshop instead of wallowing around in Photoshop Elements (no selective color adjustment layer, no curves tool, the list just goes on...)
I like this a lot. Great colour, wonderful perspective and interesting composition. Your eye is drawn around the picture from bottom right and the sky lightens then darkens again as you go round. Beautiful.

Okay this IS the spookiest thing ever. Captured on the same day and posted the same evening AND processed the same way with selective colour!! I swear on my mother's life. Nice wheel by the way ;o)

Polarizer did its best :). Wonderful parabola and gradient. Jolly colours. Thx!
to dp: My PS trial has ended, I have nothing but PS Elements and GIMP. I am using PS E. :)
awesome crisp white lines constrast so well with the deep blue sky. with your great on-camera and post-processing skill, i am always amazed by the photos i see here at chromasia.
Agree with DP - thanks for the Photoshop info. This is an excellent perspective I love it.

I love the colour of that sky, great stuff. Just seems like a tiny hint of digital noise at the top of the picture. not quite as completely noise free as Chromasia images usually are, maybe a quick whizz through noise ninja would help?
Still a great shot, im just being picky really :-)

Great Shot. I've always been an admirer of your work and we exchanged some emails last year. On a trip to Blackpool I tried to emulate some of your great work here.
Scarily enough, I took this shot last year and the similarities are striking. !

The composition is what strikes me: putting the center in the corner and leaving room in the opposite corner is just superb. So superb that it took me a lot of time to realize the axis of the carriages. Nice job, David.

Well done. The gradation through the sky is awesome. I also like how you set the center of the wheel in the corner of the frame so all of the spokes shoot out into the shot.

Really good. Bit like a dress, it's not just the blue 'fabric' that makes it good, but the CUT, which square you chose to take out of the sky...I've been visiting everyday since bbc featured you.

I love the colors. As far as constructive criticism goes, I am getting a little peeved at the carnival shots- NOT THAT THEY AREN'T GOOD. It's just "Variety is the Spice of Life". Just thought I'd give you my two cents. Keep up the good work.

Excellent colors -like always- and angle.
Great angle, and a nice close-up!
Looks like this is a popular subject! I would have loved to see some terrified kid inside one of the gondolas, staring out at the view.
