Thanks harmony.
Mark: I'm probably being obtuse, but 150 what?
John: no. The cat had kittens, but the sprog is still refusing to make an appearance. That said his due date isn't for another five days so I guess he could hang on for a while yet.
sAm: yes, fortunately for me there's normally quite a lot going on in Blackpool.
comment byJohn [shots] at 10:09 PM (GMT) on 10 August, 2005
DJN: I think he was reffering to the amount of comments you need to beat the other kite shot.

comment by m at 10:37 PM (GMT) on 10 August, 2005
This is fab, but it's definately surpassed by SG-Blackpool If only because the Kite isn't as cool :-)
comment byowen at 10:56 PM (GMT) on 10 August, 2005
brilliant. This photoblogging, it's a funny old game...
Great colours again. Was the ball there, or is that a PShop addition?

What an interesting kite. I don't think I've ever seen a kite like it before. Very cool. Also, once again, nice dark sky. And very nice tones on the kite.

hehehe...this is a funny pic. i like the way it's rotated because it makes the pic more surreal. it's nice when you don't instantly know what's going on in a pic and you need to take a couple moments to figure out what's going on.

This is so cool! The compostition is certainly different, and the vibrant colours against the blue sky just makes me feel...happy. :)
I was wondering if the ball was a kite as well? It makes sense to think that it is, but I can't see the strings...
comment by Carol at 06:59 AM (GMT) on 11 August, 2005
Did you just throw the ball up in the air at the right time?
comment bygenedavinci at 07:03 AM (GMT) on 11 August, 2005
i reckon this would be better if vertical :)

comment byTom at 11:55 AM (GMT) on 11 August, 2005
This photo was taken at 4:17 PM and the SG-Blackpool kite photo at 4:02 PM the same day. Assuming the kites were flown on the same beach it's amazing how much less stormy the sky appears in only 15 minutes. Or are you toying with us?
Either way, the photos are stunning, as usual. Judging by the visible control lines I'd guess this photo was shot as a vertical and then rotated 90° counterclockwise. Great saturation and skillful masking and feathering. If this is lazy photography as some have indicated, I wonder how they define the time spent creating this overall beautiful work of photo art.
comment bydjn1 at 12:24 PM (GMT) on 11 August, 2005
Emma: thanks, and the no-smoking is going ok. I've managed over two months without any cigs but am still using the nicotine lozenges.
SteveO: the ball was part of the kite too. And the wires were visible in the original but I toned them down a bit.
Tom: no, same beach, same sky, 15 minutes apart. This one was taken almost directly upwards (and was actually flipped vertically rather than being rotated) whereas SG-Blackpool was taken facing out to sea. Also, there was no masking on this shot just Selective Color, Hue/Saturation and Curves.
comment by Carol at 01:17 PM (GMT) on 11 August, 2005

I would've liked this heaps more if it had been portrait as opposed landscape. Your ability to capture the image though is insurpassable. I don't know if that's how you spell it ;P.
So what's the betting that this image doesn't get as many comments as my last kite shot? ;-) That said, I do like this one too.
