John put up a shot of this woman back in July so, belatedly, I thought I'd post mine.

Oh, and the "chromasia hosting saga" continues, but in a more postive way than recently. I'm currently talking to a couple of companies, both of which would probably be excellent hosts, and when I've sorted everything out I'll be moving things over. I'm not sure when yet but hope to get something sorted out by the end of next week. In the meanwhile, thanks for taking the time and effort to visit when I know that access times can be ridiculously slow and comment posting is a rather hit and miss affair.

Oops. My apologies to the previous commenter. I just realised that I'd posted multiple versions of this entry and deleted the one that had a comment posted on it, and as I'm not receiving email notifications of comments I'm not sure who it was.

First time I've seen 'no comments yet' so thought I'd say that I really like this pic - don't pretend to know much about photography, but it's really cheery and made me smile. Hope the baby's doing well xx

What a great photo of this lady. It's very natural and great skin tones. Good luck with the move.

Can't say I've seen any of the problems you're having. Not had any trouble accessing the site or posting comments.

Good shot, although it feels a bit too commercial but the tick is in a good position.

The yellow is a nice contrast in the shot. Like the crop across her head too, although I am sure there are others who will be less impressed.

Nice shot Dave, very natural looking shot : ) my only gripe is that the hair blurs into the background a bit in the top right but I think I might just be a bit tired =P I particularly like the varied range of tones in the subject's face, she's really interesting to look at ^_^

Good luck with the move.

I have not commented upon the glitches for it was obvious you'd be aware. Sometimes even the main page wouldn't upload. I knew this would not be your doing. Who cares, it'll all come good. Only the hardcore will persevere.

This image, like the other portraits in this series, really doesn't have the spirit that you manage to imbue when usimg your daughters. Is this because you can work on them longer, have more of a relationship with them than these strangers, an empathy? I do not know but this image as with yesterdays, doesn't really do all that much for me. She's smiling but there seems to be no angle or an intriguing photoshop process. Just a straight shot. Your images, they always tell a story, here I cannot construct one.

Yes, I'm being a negative Nancy but this is rare. Where are some images of your son? Perhaps the heart is more tangibly present a little closer to home...

The yellow really picks up this shot. It's more than a typical portrait because I think the expression on her face is borderline comical.

I'm very suprised that 'Photoblog' have not investigated your site problems as you are the top hit in the UK.
I think which ever company you choose to post with, your many many daily viewers from around the world will be there!
Looking forwards to some of your great shots once things calm down at home.

P.S. Hope all's well with your new lad.

Nice shot, i like the colors. See looks a little surprised. (very little) ;-)

comment by Johan at 09:47 AM (GMT) on 2 September, 2005

Doesn't do anything for me. It's not much of a portrait since it says nothing about the person. It's also not much of a picture - certainly not in the class of some of your earlier portraits. The composition is also a bit too weak to make it work.

comment by SteveO at 09:57 AM (GMT) on 2 September, 2005

I disagree, it definately seems to show a different side of her from Johns picture, in his she seems all serious and focussed, here she seems much more relaxed. Good image.

Thats some biiiiiig lips =)

Its nothing special (when compared to some of your other work) but it is a nice portrait all the same. The colour is wonderful.

:-( I wrote the FIRST comment on the wrong post...

Thanks everyone.

tobias (and everyone else): you're right, I'm not as engaged when I photograph strangers. Maybe such an engagement is possible, but I'm not sure how to acheive it with people I don't know.

GP: sorry again.

You need to be a salesman, like me. Everyone and everything interests me and most of the time, genuinely. I just have curiosity. Some people are a little less gregarious.

comment by Mary at 04:26 AM (GMT) on 3 September, 2005

Sorry....just ok....does not make me want to investigate any further.

Most your work is wonderful and inspiring. I do believe though, that sometimes you waste time and effort on portraits that not only don't add anything to your collection, but take away a little, if you ask me. This is not representative of your work. You can and have been doing a million times better.
