A few of you have asked how are other kids are getting along now Finley's arrived. I think this shot pretty much sums it up, taken this afternoon as Milly read her book while Finley dozed contentedly.

I don't know what is it about your pictures that brings so much life and meaning to everything.
Truly a great shot. =)

Brings a warm feeling to my soul. Great photo. I really needed something like this while I'm away from family and friends. I hate working out in the boonies by myself.

This is an incredibly beautiful photo - so much depth, emotion and feeling behind it - wonderful shot! Absolutely love the tone :)
comment bybmoll at 11:01 PM (GMT) on 4 September, 2005
Warm feeling indeed. This pic has a charm.
However, I think there could have been something in the background instead of pure white (but it does not interfere with the warm feeling:).

It took me a while to realize that Finley was there! Nice soft shot.

That's beautiful. The expression on the face of your daughter really sums up that feeling older kids seem to get when they have a tiny brother / sister cuddled up against them, a combination of pride, joy, and happiness I suppose. And I love the way your son's hand is twisted around in that newborn kind of way.
comment by joan at 12:10 AM (GMT) on 5 September, 2005
Such a sweet and lovely sister. (Obviously the same words describe the photo). What a lucky family, to have such records of love.
comment bytobias at 12:33 AM (GMT) on 5 September, 2005
An unremarkable shot of your daughter reading. Then, you look a the bundle on her shoulder and you realise how well captured and beautiful an image this is. I think the surprise held in the composition (for me) is where the reward lies. Well composed Dave. I also like the DoF. I am not sure how much of the haze was CS'd in but the sharpness of the book against that of the two subjects is great. Really makes the eye work.

There is something disturbing in that pic...must be the light! Not sure..
However I love the pic! Her serenity and the way the baby is part of her body is amazing! Feel like he is part of that family since ever :)
Congratulations! (for the family and photo :)

I love the toning - really draws the eye to the actual subject of the picture. So precious!
comment byJames Lomax at 04:40 PM (GMT) on 5 September, 2005
I agree the white highlight top right detracts and spoils it a little.
Otherwise, the soft focus and very subtle sepia works well.
I enjoy seeing children with babies or toddlers - reminds you that the world is not peopled with just adults, and non-adults; that there are multiple levels of age, experience and maturity, each with their own little world.

My praise is probably not much to be proud of, as I almost never see anything wrong with your shots, but this one is really special. Plain fantastic! So much warmth, beauty and surprise in one picture.
Plus the brilliantly chosen title! Makes me want to dig out my (only) Neil Diamond record immediately.
